    1. Re: [SC-OPD] Current counties that made up Old Pendleton District.
    2. Perhaps this is why so many from Abbeville and OPD areas moved into the Troup, Harris County parts of GA there we're a lot of land grants around 1832. You can look in the Gold Lottery Book of 1832 for GA and thousands of names has good info. 2. Juli Morgan
    3. I know very little about my Morgan line, but what I've found so far is that they came from New York in the 1840s to Hickman County, Kentucky and then into Obion County, Tennessee, and then to Greene County, Arkansas where they still live. I think it's the first line I've ever researched that didn't spend a few years in the Pendleton District of South Carolina. *g* Juli -----Original Message----- From: Mindy Akins [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, March 01, 2004 12:37 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [SC-OPD] Really good maps Hi Juli, I noticed you are a Morgan. 2. Maryellen
    3. To Quote Wilma's site: -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Districts and Counties, 1785 The 1785 act gave the Cheraws District the counties of Chesterfield, Marlboro, and Darlington; it divided Camden District into York, Chester, Fairfield, Lancaster, Richland, Claremont, and Clarendon counties. It gave Ninety-Six District the counties of Spartanburg, Union, Laurens, Newberry, Abbeville, and Edgefield. And it divided Orangeburg District into Orange, Lewisburg, Lexington, and Winton counties. Thus I have mixed Old Pendleton with Old 96. Maryellen ----- Original Message ----- From: "Wilma C. 3. T quote Victoria Proctor on the site mentioned below : "From the establishment of a colony on the Ashley River in 1671 until roughly 1710, South Carolina was part of "Carolina" which embraced both modern North and South Carolina. South Carolina was recognized as a royal colony in 1723. In 1682-83, the first three counties were established by the Lords Proprietors for the purposes of local government, administration of justice, granting of land, and the election of representatives to the legislative assembly: Berkeley, Colleton, and Craven, with a fourth, Granville, established somewhat later. All were discontinued in 1769 and the present Berkeley County is NOT the original. These old county names are found on early documents and can cause confusion when searching for records. Of primary importance to the researcher is the fact that records pre-dating 1785 were all filed in Charleston, irrespective of the residence in these old "royal" counties and such early documents will be found at the South Carolina Department of Archives and History in Columbia, South Carolina." 3. I think you will find some of Old Pendleton District was in Georgia, Franklin Co. at one time. One part of it was known as Indian Country and lapped over into Georgia. God Bless. HerbHendricks [email protected]

    3. There is a small community named Fishing Creek in Chester County, SC. There is a church there named Fishing Creek Presbyterian Church. It is off of Hwy 72 on a county road between Rock Hill and Chester, SC. If Chester County was once part of Old Pendelton District then this might be the Fishing Creek at seeking. Hope this helps. 2. Elden, I'm trying to locate where my gr gr gr grandfather Nicholas Briskey/Brisky and his wife Elizabeth Mark/Merck had their homestead in the Old Pendleton District. they we're there around 1789.
