    1. [SC] Anyone heard of this surname in SC?
    2. My great-grandfather was born in ABT,1868 to a woman named Mary MAJOR. I have been unable to find out anything about Mary MAJOR, except that I have information that she is listed on a later Anderson County deed in 1893, with the married surname "VAGERTY" or "VAGARTY". I can find nothing on those surnames anywhere. I"m thinking that the handwriting has been misread and that the name is perhaps "HAGERTY" or "HAGARTY". I still can't find evidence of that surname in the upstate area of South Carolina during that time. Does anyone know of this surname in South Carolina in the late 1800's? This is my brick wall. Thanks for any help. deborah

    3. Hi, I see quite a few MAJOR(S) in Anderson County, SC. No surname spelled as you did the other one, but HAGGARD is there; also HAGGERTY is a name in the south. Three Marys didn't lend a connection to the other family, but the records are earlier than you mention. I you have the children of your MAJORS family, maybe we can find the direct line.
