Saw you post about grants and your question.... About 4 years ago a lady who was very knowledgable about SC history was a guest on a talk radio genealogy program. I was able to talk to her and she told me the settlers paid "at least something" for the grants and she named the grants. If I could remember the name of the grants, I might be able to do some research on them. They may have been referring to 'Warrents' I had some notes that I took at an Edgefield Genealogy Society workshop, but I moved them to use a notebook for something else, and now I cannot find them. Anyway, what I am remembering is that an individual picked out some land and had it surveyed. Then he would get a warrant that proved that he owned the land. Sometimes the Warrents never got filed. [smart move, if filed then taxes are due!] I wish I could be of more help, but at least that is a new word to try. Good luck, Billie Jones Camden, SC tjones@camden.net
