what was the criteria for someone to get a land grant other than REV service. also - if someone got a warrant - was that the same as a grant or not? i know Royal land grants were listed in Council Journals - would land grants in the 1784 time period be listed in a smilar place? i am confused on this one. thanks for any help leigh smith
The process was, 1st. Warrant, 2nd. Survey & plat, 3rd. Grant. The Council Journals were kept until about 1773. For a complete explanation of the law after the Rev. War see, Ge Lee Corley Hendrix's, Edgefield County South Carolina Abstracts of Deed Books 1-12 1786-1796 Volume One, pp.260-262. Appendix C: The Public Laws of South Carolina to 1790 by John Faucheraud Grimke, A.B. L.L.D. Act No. 1320 A. D. 1784. An Act for establishing the Mode and Conditions of surveying and granting the vacant Lands within this State.
