Hi all my learned SC researchers, I have a question about the 1783, 1784 and 1785 years. I have just finished going through the archives index for land grants in Ninety Six District. It seema that they did maybe 100 grants a year until those three years and they jumped to 1000's. What happened to bring settlers into that region? Thanks in advance, Elaine
I don't know this for sure, but I would think that these were land grants, possibly for service in the Rev. There are clues as to what they were for in the type of grant. But I am not familiar enough off the top of my head to remember the different types like "warrent", etc. Somewhere I have some notes I took at a workshop several years ago, but if you could see my 3 desks, stacks on the floor, and file cabinets in disarray, you would understand why I cannot put my finger on it right away. Hope someone will post to the list with knowledge about this. I will continue to look to see if I can find the info. and will post it if I do. This is sure a new one for me, but know our Rev Sol, John POOL, took land in lieu of $$.
