I had thought it was my Rivers connection for a while, but I had the wrong John Rivers. Here is an outline of what I have: All Fort information came from Homer T. Fort and Drucilla Stovall Jones, "A Family Called Fort: The Descendants of Elias Fort of VA." (West Texas Printing Co, 1970). I got it thru interlibrary loan. One of my notes on Elias states: Pitifully few records of Elias survive. The first is dated Oct 9, 1667 when he scrawled his mark on the findings of a coroners jury investigating the death of William Persons Of Isle of Wight Co., Va. Is he the original immigrant from England?? So that is the date of the Coroners Jury posted by Audrey. Brackets in the outline below are because I am not positive I am working with the right Garrett and Rivers family. Would love info. to help figure it out. I have a Lucy Atkinson born about 1760, died 1828 in Sumter, SC who was married 1st to a Mr. Fort and had one son, Wiley Fort. Then she married Gilbert Crosswell about 1785. According to her will, she had one sister Sylvia Spight living in GA about time of her death.
