    3. I noticed on SC Genealogy you are interested in the last name DUKE. So am I. Do your Dukes come from N.C.? The earliest fellow I have found is Pleasant Green Duke. Somewhere I ran across the name Green Duke, but I cannot locate it now. Gloria Wells glowells@bellsouth.net

    3. Here are a few notes on DUKE & GREEN from Granville, NC. Many of this county's people migrated from VA>NC>SC. Audrey Source: Granville Co, NC Genealogies and History by Owen "Daniel WELDON. Surveyor. Cert of survey of one care of land belonging to Sam'l DUKE, of *Reedy Creek, for a mill site for Wm. PERSON, Jr. Chain bearers: Sam'l DUKE, Rich'd MADDRY. Date of Survey, July 27, 1761. Appraisers: Will JOHNSON, Wm. DUKE, Rich'd MADRY, Peter GREEN. Valued at LO. 8s. proc. p. 44. (Second of the kind of record. ROUNDTREE place the first.)" "*Green to daut. Mary DUKE, gift. P. 155. (This line is marked through). Notes: *1. I don't know what sentence in parenthesis means. *2. There was a Green DUKE; perhaps this is he even though they don't give a surname for him here. The fact there is a Green DUKE shows a possible connection between the two families. Crime, Morals, etc. "June 2, 1747. Ord'd that Sam'l DUKE stand committed until he give securt'y for his good behavior &c. He gave bond for L1, and Joseph DUKE his surety for L5. to answer when called at next Ct. First case of the kind."
