    3. For any of you researching the POPE families of VA to SC, you may want to look these records over. It is my opinion that they are all related. Note the same given names, but also how they give the counties and states other than the NC county of Edgecombe. The best kind of research! Audrey Source: Rutherford County, NC Wills and Miscellaneous Records, 1783-1868: "Page 7. 24 June 1834. Recorded, Sept Court 1834. I, John POPE, Senr being of sound and perfect mind. I give unto my beloved wife *Penelope (POPE) all land in NC & all my Negroes Viz. Rose, James, Jenny and her four children, & all my estate of all description in NC during her natural life or widowhood. I appoint my son Carter (POPE) to assist his mother in the management of the est. when called on. I give unto my sons Carter POPE & John T. POPE a tract of land containing 700 acres of land in *SC on South Pacolet, to be equally divided between them, each to pay the other legatees the sum of $150. At the death of my wife the property in NC to be divided between my children. I appoint my sons Carter POPE & Philip WATKINS executors. Wit: Joshua CAMP, jurat, David POPE, jurat, Jacob PHILLIPS. Signed: John X POPE, Sr." *Note: The Pacolet River in SC runs through Spartanburg County. (Audrey) Edgecombe County, NC, Abstracts of Deeds, 1732-1758: Pg 191. Jacob POPE of Edgecombe Precinct, planter to John SIKES of Edgecombe Precinct, planter 16 May 1737 12 pounds 16 shillings silver money 340 acres more or less on the north side of *Tar River, joining William POPE and the south side of Swift Creek as by patent to the sd. POPE 21 June 1730. Wit: J. EDWARDS, Sampson POPE Reg. Edge. Prect. May Ct. 1737 T. Kearney D.C. Ct." *Note: The Tar River is seen on Granville Co, NC records. Sons: Jacob POPE, 3 Negroes; West, 1 Negro; Stephen, 1 Negro and plantation whereon I formerly lived in Isle of Wight; daus: Rebecca POPE and Julian NEWSOME; gr. Sons: William TAYLOR, 2 Negroes, and William POPE, son of Jacob, my plantation whereon I live; should he die without issue, reversion to his bro. Richard POPE. Son & Exr: Jacob POPE; son in law & exr: Joseph NEWSOME. Wit: Henry WEST, Joseph PEARCE, Arthur WALL, John JORDAN. In probate notes by Benjamin WYNNS, C. C. Testator came to this state from Isle of Wight County, Virginia, and devised to son Stephen plantation in said County." Exs: Wife Sarah and son John POPE. D. May 28, 1728. R. October 28, 1728. Wit: Epenetus GRIFFIN, John DENSON, Jr, Martin CLEUSE (?). page 127." Note: There are others, but this one had a Jacob. Son: Elijah POPE, also lend her 1 Negro, reversion to son, Pilgrim; Son Sampson, 5 S; daus: Mourning WIMBERLEY, Rebeccah SYKES and Mary SURGINER, 5 S each; son & Exr: Pilgrim, residue consisting of cattle, hogs and sheep, furniture of every kind, etc. Wit: Robert DIGGS, John SURGINER, Sarah SURGINER (SURGEONER) by the Clerk." Wit: Bryant G. POPE, Martin T. POPE." Edgefield, SC Will Book, 1787-1836: One, Solomon POPE is an executor of the will of William STROTHER, 1794. Halifax County, NC Wills, 1758-1824 by Margaret Hofmann: Note: This record could be significant as to a POPE/BAILEY connection. (aep=Audrey Ellen Pool) "Will 50.
