Someone else said it was Lexington County near the city of Cayce. Hmmm. The person in question ( a Harrison wayyyyyy back) was originally from Fairfield County so Lexington would be closer (but not a sure bet!). Lexington is correct. Fairfield County borders both Lexington and Richland counties. There probably was a ferry at Granby that crossed the Congaree River and provided transportation to and from Columbia. In checking my map, that section of the Congaree is the dividing line between Lexington and Richland counties. I think Columbia is the most likely place. There was, at one time, a ferry that ran from Columbia to Charleston. It sank on the Lexington County side of the Gervais Street bridge. There was an old mill that was called the Granby Mill that was down the river closer to the Olympia side of Columbia. It would probably have come across just about where Cayce, West Columbia is located.
