    3. Some excitiing new info. has come to me by chance this week. I got an email message a couple of weeks ago from Betty Trotter whose husband Randy's family is from the Saluda Co. area. She and her husband were going to be in SC for a visit and she wanted to put a face to the emailer. We have exchanged Trotter info. as the Joseph Trotter line marries into the Charles Carter and Hezekiah Gentry line that is mine, so I have worked a bit on them. We cannot connect the two Trotter lines yet, however. Anyway, we met here at the Camden Archives Tuesday and enjoyed visiting with one another. (Who else but family researchers can meet complete strangers and spend 5 hours constantly talking about dead folks and have fun!) Betty mentioned a scrapbook that her husbands grandmother, Edna Ruth HAZEL Trotter, had kept of old family pictures and obits. My comment was that one of my daughters-in-law was a desc. of the Hazels of that area, going back to Darling Hazel b. ca Abt. 1789 married Margaret Bland. Well.... lo and behold, that is her husband's Hazel line too. And the scrapbook had Julie's g-grandparents and gg-grandparents' obit in it, and a picture of her grandmother with all her siblings. It is truely a small world!! So Betty came back to Camden on Tuesday and brought the scrapbook and allowed me to copy the pages. I have found and expanded several lines already and have only transcribed one page of the obits from the scrapbook. Betty has given me permission to post the information that I transcribe onto the lists, and she is generously donating a copy to the Tomkins Library for future researchers. Her copy is much better than mine, as she made color copies that shows the pictures, in the sepia tone that is much clearer than my black & white copy of a copy. We both hope that this information will help many of you. And that you will post to the list any information that you might have on these folks. Each time I post, I will give the source of the info. and certain limitations. For instance, the compiler of the scrapbook did not write down the date nor the name of the newspaper from which the obit was taken. A couple give the name the "Saluda Standard", and at least one so far has said special to The State (out of Columbia). I don't know anything about the Saluda Standard. The source documentation that I am using is: "Scrapbook of pictures and obits kept by Ella Ruth Hazel Trotter 1905 - 1963, d/o John Henry & Jamesanna Timmerman Hazel" Then, in the comments section of my source, I add the actual item, such as obit of Mrs. Julia Hazel Simmons or obit of John R. Trotter..... I am searching cem. records and death cert. for dates on these folks since the dates are not written on the clippings. Some I may not have, and Betty might not have found either, so if anyone knows them, please share. I am so excited about this info, especially since it includes information on my daughter-in-law's family. However, Julie was very grateful to hear that as far as I can tell, she has no direct family connections to her husband! So... be on the lookout. I am having to do this much slower than I want to, as I am trying to put the death cert. with them, and I cannot get down to do those as often as I would like. I hope noone will mind all the cross posting, as I need to include several different areas for research purposes. Billie Jones Camden, SC [email protected]
