Obit of Mrs. Bessie Dorn Ouzts (undated, no newspaper name given) Mrs. Ouzts, 83, Dies at Saluda Saluda (Special) -- Mrs. Bessie Dorn Ouzts, 83, died Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. R. Webb after 10 months' illness. She was the widow of Jesse W. Ouzts, and the daughter of the late James W. Dorn and Josephine Palmer Dorn of Edgefield Co. Survivors include five daughters, Miss Palm Ouzts of the home, Mrs. J. R. (Vivian) Webb of Saluda, Mrs. Howard (Ellison) Schwarzmann of Baltimore, MD, Mr. H. A. (Julia) Gregory of Saluda Co, Mrs. H. E. Chandler of Saluda Co, and Mrs. H. E. (Leora) Wingate; three sisters, Mrs. Walter Faulkner, Mrs. Broadus Chandler of Saluda Co, and Mrs. J. B. Gregory of Ninety Six and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 4 pm Sunday from Red Bank Baptist Church by the Rev. Charles Thomas. The body will be at the Ramey Funeral Home. *NOTE: the obit states she leave 5 daughters, but names 6. Some caution needs to be taken here. No burial location was given in the obit. One connection I have made to folks in my file thus far is the sister Mrs. Walter Faulkner. I THINK this matches: 1 Myrtle "Mertie" Palmer DORN b: September 25, 1878 in Edgefield Dist, SC . +Walter Victor FAULKNER b: Abt. 1869 in Possibly GA m: Abt. 1899 Father: Jonathan Melvin 'John' Faulkner Mother: Fannie McCrady [From the Faulkner research of Drew Welch <[email protected]>, 131 Whisperwood Dr., Lexington, SC, 29072] -------------------- A later obit of Hosea Gregory of Saluda names Mrs. Julia Ouzts as his wife. In the above obit of Mrs. Bessie Dorn Ouzts in 1959, his wife is mentioned as a daughter, Mrs. H. A. Gregory. These two obits allowed me to connect the two families. Saluda (special) - Hosea A. Gregory, 59, died at his home near Saluda at 7:15 am Tuesday after an illness of two years. He was a lifelong resident of Saluda Co., a farmer and cattle grower. he was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church, Woodmen of the World and the Masonic Lodge of saluda. He was also a Shriner. He was a son of Cassie Harling Gregory and the later Andrew J. Gregory. Survivors inlcude his wife, Julia Ouzts Gregory of Saluda Co; his mother; one brother N. Hoyt Gregory of Columbia; one sister, Mrs. Oree G. Michaels of Columbia and two nieces, Mrs. Jack Cartenter of Augusta Ga. and Mrs. Hugh Dominick of Saluda. Funeral services will be conducted from Good Hope Baptist Church at 4 pm Wednesday by the Rev. Charles J. Thomas and the Rev. B. J. Wilburn. Burial will be in the adjoining cem. with Masonic rites. Altho. no dates are given in the scrapbook, Hosea Gregory and his wife, Julia Ouzts Gregory are buried at Good Hope Baptist Church, Saluda Co. SC. Gregory, Hosea A.
