Audrey, I have seen this "next friend" in many wills where there were no Quakers involved, and I don't believe that Joseph GRISHAM was a Quaker. The explanation seems to have something to do with the way a will is settled, but I cannot remember exactly - which I could kick myself for! I am desc. fr. Thomas WATSON who was born in Richmond Co., GA, in abt. 1750. He served in the ARW and received a land grant in upper SC for his service. He came with his wife Elizabeth COATES to Pickens Dist./Old Pendleton Dist. and settled there. He had one son and 9 daughters that I know of. These girls md. ALEXANDERS, GIBSONS, JARRETTS, etc. in the same area. Their dau. Hannah md. William K. ALEXANDER, son of Elijah ALEXANDER & Sarah GROGAN. Hannah and William K. ALEXANDER had a large family and their dau, Emila, md. my GG-G'father, Morris Monroe MILLER, and they were my GG-G'parents. I don't know that they were related to any POOL/POOLES, but I have those POOLES in my line a couple of times from other directions. Sorry I'm not much help to you, but I will have my eyes searching for POOLS and WATSONS and will let you know if I turn up anything interesting! I didn't reply to have a definite answer for this, but to ask what WATSON family is yours? In Brunswick Co, VA, John JACKSON's dau Rebecca JACKSON married John WATSON. John WATSON died in 1763, but his descendants went to Upper SC. Sons: William, John (m. Elizabeth POOLE), Burwell, Henry, Isaac, James and Jacob. William POOLE, Sr or Jr of Elizabeth's family also married Elizabeth WATSON, d/o John WATSON. Talk about keeping it all in the same family! You can understand my interest in a WATSON of SC. Audrey, If you have info on Thomas WATSON, b. 1760, GA; d. Pendleton Dist., SC, would you mind sharing? I need some further info on him. Basically I have him md. to Eliz. COATES, a list of his children, and that's about it. I need this to complete my DAR papers. Thank you for anything! God bless, and Happy 4th!
