She is listed in Nathan's will as being a str to him or is this a typo and should be dtr? there is a marriage record in Greene Co., GA May 6, 1821 for a Isom Hobbs and a Mary Lankford. Also - do you know who the father of this Nathan Lankford is? Leigh C. Smith http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Acres/4730/index.html

    3. I have seen 2 names for Nathan Lankfords father. Which one.... requires more research. I do think it may be the one with Taylor in the family. Martha Lankford is a daughter to Nathan Lankford. The marriage record for Isom Hobbs is Martha Lankford, it may be a typo. Isham/Isom Hobbs went to MS in mid 1820's to early 1830's. There is a little known on him but not as much as some of his siblings. Martha died before 1850 in MS. Isham died abt 1853 in MS. We have found maybe 5 of his children. I know 3 are definates, 2 still needs to be verified or linked better. Mary Lankford died abt 1887 and her husband Nathan Hobbs d. 1889. in GA. They only left GA for a short time where they were in the 1820 Census in Rutherford Co., NC. I believe that Nathan Lankford might have been ill and perhaps needed help. After his death Nathan and Mary Hobbs moved back to Greene Co., GA. They never left GA. Most of Nathan's decendents stayed in GA and some went south to FL. Isham's children of the ones we know about went to TX. I hope that helped. 3. Leigh, See below, I don't know if you saw this, this might answer your question..... I got this from the Lankford email list Diane Sgt John and All: We have in our library collection the Rev. War records from NARA. We also have the state indent papers for SC and NC. For other states one must scatch about a bit because they may be in the State Archives such as Pennsylvania or recorded in compiled books here in Dallas. I have done a goodly amount of lookups for folks and once in the library with my thinking cap on I can go to the books and film needed to locate a patriot. To address the surnames as I did in listing the current DAR Index, I typed them just as they are in the book. The Gford and Kford are under the same heading and only getting the record will show which name a man carried at that time. I say carried at that time because many Kford adopted Gford at later dates reverting back to the English spelling. Regarding the Langfitt name, I believe that this family became Langfords also after settling in Georgia. Someone from that line can clarify this for the list and the Tree Mother. There were Continentals, State Militia, local militia, and persons who gave good and services or served in offices of the government set up in the various states. Also signing documents to support the cause. I do a lot of look ups for folks around the country but cannot afford to order up all these applications to see who the descendants are and also the spelling of the name. My own family were Kford and Gford in the same documents. Eventually they settled on consistency and Gford is the form they chose. Our English list members can tell us about the spelling in England and whether Kford was a migration variant on the name. I have found Gford in Wales and Ireland. Personally I believe it was a pronunciation error and have tested non-Langford/Lankford folks with how they would spell the name. It is surprising how many hear Lanford with a drop of the G and K. Some of us may still have the tendency to clip off the G or K when speaking. At least the "rapid speakers" as opposed to the "Slow Speakers of America Club" members. The DAR has frozen many names because of faulty documentation and new members must really prove with good documentation their descent from any man/woman of the Rev. War. Years ago when this was a "social club" for the grand dames some slid in with questionable data. John: Are you SAR on a Langford? I am DAR but not on Langford family. Got to go. Need my second cup of tea and then off to the library. Tree Mother "She is insane, of course. The family history has bcome a mania for her."
