    1. Re: [SC] Frances Bullock or Frances Whatley b. ca 1856

    3. Billie, After reading this over I might as well have worked on all of the records for BULLOCK and WHATLEY of Granville, NC. Don't you think these two families, BULLOCK and WHATLEY are from Zachariah BULLOCK and Shirley WHATLEY? Both families migrated from Granville Co, NC, but probably in VA before that. Zach BULLOCK was the s/o Richard BULLOCK of Granville, NC. Shirley WHATLEY is in Granville (NC) early; Tax Lists, etc. Richard leaves a will in Granville (NC). Len Henley and Zachariah BULLOCK were brothers. Zachariah didn't die in Granville (NC), but in Union Co, SC. Here is a record of him with a niece Fanny Lyne or LYNE(d/o Len Henley BULLOCK). Looks like she may have m. a LYNE if one of the executors has meaning... Source: Some South Carolina Genealogical Records by Revill. "BULLOCK, Zachariah of Union Co. Will 10 Feb 1791 Union Probate Pg-8 Bro: Len Hinley (sic) BULLOCK'S 4 youngest daughters-namely: Fanny LYNE, Lucey, **Agnes, and Nancey B.-each 250 sterling Bro: Len Henley BULLOCK of Warren Co, NC (previously Granville). Exor: All rest Nephew: Richard BULLOCK-son of Len Henley. One of the Exor's. Exor: *James LYNE of Granville Co (NC?). Wit: Adam POTTER, John LIPSCOMBE, Wm LIPSCOMBE, Jr." * James LYNE is definitely from Granville Co, NC, as are his ancestors. He is named on a will of his grandfather. Gosh, many of these people connect with either PETTYPOOL or POOL(E)! And/or HOLLOWAY. (aep) **Agnes is a given name in the BULLOCK family. Agnes BULLOCK, d/o Richard BULLOCK m. a WILLIAMS (WILLIAMS-SATTERWHITE-PETTYPOOL). One Agnes BULLOCK is a witness to William BULLOCK's will, Granville Co., NC. Frances BULLOCK, d/o William BULLOCK (Will, 1794, Granville, NC) married a BOYD. So these names, like many other families, came down for generations. (aep) There is a Fanny BULLOCK in the following record, but over a hundred years before the one you are looking for. "1383 pg 322 John BULLOCK 6 February 1762 255 acres in Granville County on both sides of DOTSONS Branch, joining BULLOCKS line, BRICKLES line, and HARGROVES line OR: /s/ John BULLOCK Wits: Len Henley BULLOCK, *Fanny BULLOCK surveyed 19 January 1761 SCC: Zachariah BULLOCK, Leonard SIMM Thos PERSON Surveyor." Wasn't the HOLLOWAY/BULLOCK connection through Zach BULLOCK's line? With a Zach WHATLEY, it looks like there was a connection between the two families somewhere before your line here; and/or because of this connection...(if) this Fannie comes through Zachariah BULLOCK's lineage. I know Shurley/Shirley WHATLEY was in Edgefield after migrating from Granville, NC. The following are interesting records. Granville Co, NC Patent Book 14: "Michael WHATLEY 16 March 1761 644 acres in Granville County on both sides of Lyons Creek, joining KIMBALLS corner and WOOTONS line OR: /s/ Mich'l WHATLEY* Wits: Len Henley BULLOCK*, Phill HAWKINS surveyed 28 May 1760 SCC: Thomas WOOTON, Wm WILLIAMS, Thos PERSON Surveyor." *Note both WHATLEY and BULLOCK on the same doc here. I don't know who Michael WHATLEY is, but Shirley WHATLEY had a son, William, in the 1752 Tax List of Granville, NC. (aep) "2805 pg 96 Shurley WHATLEY 6 February 1762 76 acres in Granville County on the S side of Shocco Creek, joining WHATLEYS line, *JONES line, and the sd creek OR: /s/ Shurley WHATLEY Wits: Jno LINTON, James MARTIN, Jr (Plat is missing)." *This JONES family had a Gabriel JONES connection and from Spotsylvania Co, VA. Our William POOL or PETTYPOOL m. Elizabeth JONES, d/o of a Gabriel JONES. (aep) Does this make sense?
