The only DUKE listed in Old Pendleton Dist., 1800, is Abraham DUKE. Sorry! Dolores M. Hi, all. If a professional genealogist sees this, and would like to make me an offer to find the needed info, I am open to your thoughts, by private e-mail reply. Any student of the DUKE families of SC is welcome to share any info available, or to offer to help, as well, and I will also consider a fee for such assistance by him or her!! I am seeking any or all information which may be available in any SC census as follows: 1790, 1800, 1810, or 1820 Fed. census. Head of Household # 1 would be Robert DUKE, b. ca 1775-1785 (per estimated age, in 1840 census at about 60 years!) Since his wife's name will not be given, and we do not know her date of birth, any help on the details found in the census is most appreciated!! Most importantly, we hope to find an approximate number of children, living in this household, which may assist in determining the make-up of the family group, if at all possible!! One of his known sons, James DUKE, head of household # 2, may have been born ca. 1795-1800, and James's wife was Elizabeth Judith WILSON. Marriage location (thought to be in Fairfield District?, or county?) and date are not known, but some of their first children are said to have been born in Charleston Co., SC. There were eleven children of this marriage. Several of the younger ones were born in Perry Co., Alabama, after a migration to that area, about 1820-1830, or perhaps a bit later It is thought that, based on the DUKE family 'style' of which Robert was a part, Robert would have had more than one off-spring, but, to date, no definite records on that point have come to the attention of this seeker. James bought land in Perry Co., AL., in ca. 1832, or so, and Robert, his father, by now (probably) a widower, bought land in ca. 1836, nearby. Before the time of the census in 1840, James had deceased, Lizzie Judith was a widow and the head of her own household, and (Robert, apparently) a widower, age ca. 60, was living in the home with her, along with several of her younger children. The main questions are: 1. How many persons were found in the household of Robert DUKE, in any of the 1790, 1800, 1810 or 1820 Federal census? 2. Where was this family counted, in any census in which they are found? 3. What were the ages, and the gender of each person found?? 4. Where was the household of James DUKE found, in any of those same census records, and how many persons of what ages and gender were found, in that household?? The name of the wife of Robert, and the mother of James, is said to have been Anney KINSTON (or perhaps KINSLER?), but at this point, such information is merely based on a 'best guess' view-point. Can anyone with easy access to SC early state-wide census records assist?? All assistance is most gratefully appreciated!! Thanks, and my regards to any and all of you, who read this!!
