Walker, one of the county's oldest and most highly esteemed citizens died yesterday morning aged eighty-nine at the home of their daughter, Mrs. S. L. Vaughn. Besides many family connections, Mr. Walker leaves two sons - Dr. W. E. Walker, of Greer, and Mr. J. E. Walker - and two daughters - Mrs. S. L. Vaughn and Mrs. Amanda White, of this county. For many years he was a leading member of the Rocky Creek church. The funeral services will be held at noon today at the family burying ground in Butler township. Greenville News - November 14, 1916 MRS. ALETHA D. OWINGS PASSED AWAY MONDAY Funeral Will be Held This Afternoon at Residence on Buncombe Street Mrs. Aletha D. Owings, aged 65 years, died Monday afternoon at two o'clock at her home 334 Buncombe St. She was a native of Greenville county, the family home being at Walkersville. The funeral services of Mrs. Owings will be held Tuesday afternoon at four o'clock at the residence. Interment will be in Springwood cemetery. Dr. G. W. Quick, her pastor, will conduct the services. Friends of he family are invited to attend. Mrs. Owings is survived by the following daughters: Mrs. R. Q. Glass, of Columbia; Mrs. Alex Cagle, Miss Bessie Owings and Mrs. Henry C. Farish. Five brothers and two sisters also survive; the brothers are T. A. Walker, G. L. Walker, L. C. Walker, T. J. Walker, and R. Walker. Mr. T. J. Walker is of Summerton, S.C. and the other brothers of Greenville. Her sisters are Mrs. Susian Hill and Mrs. W. S. Miller. The following gentlemen will act as pallbearers: P. D. Edwards, W. D. MILLER DIED YESTERDAY Life Long Resident of Greenville County Passed Away At Home Near City Mrs. Kesiah Walker Miller, widow of the late Dr. W. S. Miller, and a life long resident of Greenville County, died at her home on The Woodruff road, seven miles below this city, following several weeks illness, in the seventy-second year of her age. The following children survive her: Mrs. J. J. Price, of Lincolnton, Georgia; Mrs. R. B. Carter, of Greenville; Thomas A. Miller, of Nashville, Tenn. Royce and W. Saxby Miller of Greenville. The following brothers and sisters also survive her: Messrs. G. L., T. A.., Adolphus and L. C. Walker of this city; Mrs. John Hill of Greenville; Mr. Irby Walker, of Sumter. Stone Ave. died yesterday at 9 p.m. in a Columbia hospital after several years of declining health and a sudden attack. Born in Wilmington, Ohio, where he was graduated from Wilmington College. He came to Greenville as a young man to open Cobb's 5 and 10 cent Store. He later operated a grocery store and for many years before his retirement was sales manager for Balentine Packing Co. Mr. Glass was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was a member and past master of Walden Masonic Lodge 274, the York Rite and Scottish Rite bodies and the Hejaz Temple of the Shrine. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Emma Schaberg of Columbia, Mo., and Mrs. Clarence Ames of California: three grandchildren and a great-grandchild. His wife, Mrs. Minnie Owings Glass, died a number of years ago and his only son, R. Q. Glass, Jr., died last February. The family is at the home of Mrs. R. Q. Greenville News - May 18, 1945 Rudolph Walker Funeral services for Rudolph Walker, for many years a retail coal dealer of this city, will be held at the Mackey mortuary Saturday morning at 11 o'clock, conducted by Dr. J. Dan Crain and Dr. J. W. Shackford. Interment will be in Springwood cemetery. The following pallbearers are asked to meet at the mortuary at 10:45 o'clock: Tom Bennett, James Bennett, B. F. C. where he had made his home for the past 15 years. He was a member of the Baptist church. Mr. Walker is survived by his wife, six sons, two daughters and four grandchildren. Pending the hour of the service the body is at the mortuary. Greenville News, November 28, 1951 Mrs. Edna B. Walker The body of Mrs. Edna B. Walker , widow of the late Rudolph Walker will be brought to Greenville at noon today to lie in state until 3 o'clock this afternoon at the Mackey Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock at the mortuary, conducted by Mrs. Walker's pastor the Rev. C. C. Herbert of Salisbury, N. C. assisted by the Rev. Dr. R. Bryce Herbert pastor of Buncombe Street Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Springwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John I. Smith, B. F. Dillard, Furman Berry, Arthur W. Hill, Francis Dawes and Police Chief J. H. Hennings who will meet at the mortuary at 2:50 o'clock. Mrs. Walker had been in declining health for the past several months and seriously ill for the past four weeks. She died in Rowan Memorial Hospital in Salisbury at 2:45 o'clock yesterday morning. The family home had been in Salisbury since 1938. Mrs. Walker was prominently connected in Spartanburg and Greenville Counties, being the daughter of the late Newton L. and Lenora (Leonard) Bennett. She was born in Spartanburg County April 21, 1872. She was educated at old Lander College at Williamston. Mrs. Walker was a member of the First Methodist Church of Salisbury. Survivors include six sons, J. B. Walker, C. C. Walker, N. L. Walker, H. L. Walker, and Edwin L. Walker, Salisbury, and R. P. Walker, Durham, N. C.; and two daughters Mrs. Tennie W. Matlock, Salisbury, and Mrs. A. M. Hill of this city; two brothers, J. E. B. Bennett, Greer; and Grady O. Bennett, Lyman; two sisters Mrs. Sloan Verdin, Auburn Ala, and Mrs. T. Walker Funeral services for Lyndsay C. Walker will be held at 4:30 o'clock this afternoon at the Mackey mortuary on North Main street. Services will be conducted by Rev. R. O. He was 64 years of age and a son of the late Thomas A. and Mrs. Elizabeth Locke Walker. He was a member of the Central Baptist Church of this city. Lawrence Walker resident of this city of many years and for a period of 10 years treasurer of Greenville County passed away at 1:30 yesterday afternoon at the home of his daughter Mrs. L. W. Lively, 404 Rutherford Street. Mr. Walker during the years of his activity had large farming interests in the county but in recent years he has lived in retirement and for the past three years has been in failing health. Since the death of Mrs. Walker, two years ago he has made his home with his daughter. He was 70 years of age. Mr. Walker was a member and for many years was a deacon in the Pendleton Street Baptist Church and has always manifested a deep interest in the welfare of the church. His host of friends throughout the county will learn of his passing with the deepest regret. Mr. Walker is survived by the following sons, and one daughter. J. Thomas Walker, of Greenwood; E. Brooks Walker, of the United States Navy; W. Max Walker, of New York City; and Mrs. L. W. Lively of this city. Two brothers Lindsay C. Walker and Rudolph Walker both of this city also survive. Greenville News, August 26, 1940 - Cleveland Walker Dies in Hospital World War Veteran of City Passes --- Funeral Rites Today Cleveland Brock Walker, 44, A prominent life-long resident of this city, died yesterday morning at 8:45 o'clock at the Veterans hospital in Columbia, where he had been receiving treatment for the past several months. He was a son of the late Lyndsay C. and Annie Brock Walker. Mr. Walker attended the city schools and Furman University. During the World War he saw service overseas. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Agnes Hill Walker: one brother and three sister, Lyndsay C. Walker, Mrs. D. H. Brown, Mrs. Otis J. White and Mrs. Joe J. White. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Mackey mortuary, conducted by Dr. Leon M. Latimer and the interment will be made in the family plot in the Springwood cemetery. Greenville News - March 8, 1923 TANDY A. WALKER DIED IN MERIDIAN Body of Prominent Greenville Man Arrives today on Southern Train No. 38 The body of Tandy A. Walker, of 14 Pinkney street, who died late Tuesday night in Meridian, Mississippi, following a sever attack of influenza will arrive in Greenville today on Southern train number 38. As yet no funeral arrangements have been made. Mr. Walker contracted the disease while on a train enroute from Durant, Mississippi to Greenville. Mr. Walker complained of his condition when he boarded the train and before he reached Meridian it was necessary to move him from the train to a hospital. The family were notified of his critical condition and Mrs. Walker and her son, Dr. Otis Walker of Greer left Monday night. They were with him when the end came. He was nearly 70 years of age and had lived in this state all of his life. He moved from Walkers Crossroads, nine miles east of this city to Greenville. He was connected with G. F. Norris as a traveling representative. Besides his widow the deceased is survived by two sons: Dr. Otis Walker and Herman Walker and three daughters, Mrs. Casper Chandler, Mrs. William Jackson and Miss Mary Walker, all of Greenville. He is also survived by three brothers, Lindsay C. Walker, G. Lawrence Walker and Rudolph Walker, and by one sister, Mrs. J. S. Hill. Greenville News - March 9, 1923 FUNERAL TODAY FOR T. A. WALKER Services For Well Known Greenville Man To Be Held At 11 O'clock The remains of Tandy A. Walker reached Greenville early Thursday afternoon from Meridian, Miss. The remains are at the home on Pinckney street. Funeral services for Mr. Walker will be held from the residence 14 Pinckney street, this morning at 11 o'clock. The Rev. Dr. George W. Quick, assisted by the Rev. S. T. Mathews, will conduct the services and the interment will be made in the family plot in Springwood cemetery. Mr. Walker was taken ill in Meridian, Miss. while on a business trip to that city and Mrs. Walker and his son Dr. Otis Walker were summoned to his bedside. Death resulted shortly after their arrival from pneumonia, pre-induced by influenza. Mr. Walker, a native of Greenville was one of Greenville's esteemed citizens, and his host of friends received the news of his death with the keenest regrets. The following gentlemen are asked to serve as the active pallbearers at the funeral Friday morning; G. Furman Norris, H. S. Cheney, John D. MacNeil, O. P. Earle, Henry T. Crigler and Joseph B. Ross, of the Old Spartanburg road died at an early hour yesterday morning following eight weeks of illness. Mr. Ross was a son of the late Tillman and Mary Elizabeth Shockley Ross, and had reached the age of 80 years. He had spent his entire life in the section where his death occurred and had been engaged in farming during his active years. Mr. Ross was a member of Brushy Creek Baptist church and as long as health permitted he took an active part there, having served as a deacon at one time. His wife, the late Mrs. Lizzie Walker Ross, passed away four years ago. Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Mattie Garrett, Paris Station; Mrs. M. L. James, Piedmont; Mrs. L. A. Moore and Mrs. W. J. Bramlett, Greer; Mrs. P. B. Burns, and Mrs. R. L. Burns, Greenville county; five sons, T. C. Ross, Taylors; R. W., V. R., and P. L. Ross, Greer; A. R. Ross, Greenville county, in addition to 51 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by the following sisters and brother, Mrs. Mamie Byrd, Piedmont; Mrs. Jannie Coplin, Greer; Mrs. Lucy Vaughn, Dallas, Texas; Mrs. Minnie Miece, Taylors and G. W. Ross, Greer.
