Don't mean to jump in here, but there were two John THOMASES in Sptg. who fought in the ARW. I know that mine was from Richmond, VA and was not the other John THOMAS (who was more famous for his ARW efforts). Both men lived only a few miles from each other, and they have often been confused. Mine was married to Nancy BRANNON/BROUGHTON. They had a son who was Broughton THOMAS, d. 1852, & also lived Sptg. Co., SC (I desc. from Broughton). I am at my dad's bec he is ill, but have tons of info at home & will be happy to share what I have on both men. Sorry I don't have access to it now. It seems to me that the more famous John THOMAS was md. to a SMITH; can't remember for an absolute certainty, but I think that's correct.
