    3. Freda, I once corresponded with an ALFORD descendant who was, in some way, connected to our AL families...cannot remember now who it was. The thing I do remember was that man was so proud of that family! One SC THOMAS family is married into our POOL family, but the person who sent in that comment didn't tell enough for us to help. Maybe soon. Andrew THOMAS family: John Robert THOMAS, Junior m. Dempsey POOL, d/o John POOL (RS) & Mahulda HOLLOWAY This THOMAS family still owns a lot of land in Alabama, specifically near Greensboro, Hale County, AL. When I was there in the Fall of '98 I drove all over those hills with a THOMAS/POOL descendant as she showed me the land, cemeteries, churches, etc. Beautiful! How are you and Ted? 3. Dear Audrey, so good to see your name come up on my screen! It had been some time. I pick up on any reference to the "Alford" name because the Monroe County Alfords were so close to my Roberson and Wright families. They are from S. Carolina and I imagine knew my families before the big move south. I don't research the name Thomas though. Thank you for responding. The name "Alford" is also spelled "Hallaford." Ted and I are doing just great. We are enjoying our summer in Gualala. It has been too warm for me on some days, but of course, it's much cooler there than almost any other place near us. Today we have some fog, so the breezes should be cooler. Our youngest daughter Lauren was with us from Friday through Sunday. Her 20 year old Kyle and 6 year old Jacob came with her. Lauren just always wants to relax...walk on the beach, talk and read...when she is here. Kyle had worked late on Thursday night. And, he slept a lot, too. Jacob shared all of his kindergarten papers with us. To go into first grade, he had to take STA tests. Imagine! Fortunately, he's a very bright little guy and won the "achievement award" for his class of 24. Age 6 1/2 looked sort of comical beside his score! We are concentrating on getting ready for our Amtrak trip. Leaving on September 19, to go to Martinez, where we leave our car. Will return about a month later from Mobile, LA and back to Martinez. My Regan family is planning a get together for us in Mobile on October 14. My big task is getting all our research in good order. I think we may be wasting time and money going to Edgefield and Laurens, S. Carolina, but we are going to go there to see if I can uncover my earlier Robertsons. Thanks to your help over the months, I have notes on various records to look for. We will move down to Lowndes, Butler, Wilcox and Monroe Counties to try to learn more. I finally heard from my cousin's daughter with the info that she didn't think her dad and mother took any sources or documentation notes when they were doing their research in the eighties. Her Dad died last summer and her mother is now living with Sue. Sue has promised not to "throw away" any of her Dad's notes. Maybe we will learn more when we are in Greenville. Do you have any suggestions about doing research in S. Carolina? I have received a lot of helpful info, but could still use more. How are you two? I hope you are both well and are enjoying August. Any plans to travel north? Ted's big artists's studio tour comes up on Labor Day weekend, so he is busy getting ready. If you are interested, go to http://studio-tours.com/site2002/TedNoble.html It should be a good show. Write again. 3. Hi Freda, I WILL GO to Ted's site! Ray will want to see it as well. I guess he puts his pics on a site so any and everyone can see, right? I sometimes forget how convenient the Internet is in relation to what you and I grew up with. Gosh. Do you know Billie Jones of SC? She would be one to speak with, I think, about where to search once you get there. I have a map of where the POOLS lived on Halfway Swamp on the Saluda River - Edgefield. You have surely seen Billie on the Edgefield-L. Between Ray and Mom's lineages, Billie and us have several lines together. Also, Billie goes to the archives often and retrieves records, the kind that help put everything in perspective. I copied off your previous post telling me when you leave, but I see it stuck at the back/side of my computer. Didn't want to forget. Did you ever accept that your ROBERTSON/ROBINSON families were from Southside VA? That sure looks like one of those families that migrated to SC; also the REGANS of Surry Co, VA. Maybe someone at the reunion will make those connections. Your trip sounds wonderful and I hope both of you have a great time!
