    3. Gloria, I was at the York County, SC library today. I found the July 1901 edition of The South Carolina Historical and Genealogical Magazine published quarterly by The South Carolina Historical Society, Charleston, SC. I hope this is the magazine you wanted. I could not find your Thomas Donaldson but it does reference a Lt. John Donaldson commissioned June 18, 1775. He was in the First Company of Rangers. This Lt. John Donaldson is also referenced in the July 1900 issue. I copied the pages that had him listed along with some of the other pages that I thought might have information that could be helpful to you. I would be happy to mail them if you want them. 1. National Geographic Article The Greatest Journey......Our DNA
    2. Herbert Hendricks
    3. National Geographic "The Greatest Journey Ever Told, The Trail of Our DNA" March 2006. For those who participate in the Genographic Project per providing their DNA sample and getting their 12 marker DNA results they should read this article. When reading the article pay particular attention to the paragraph on page 73 which reads; "The Tribe's DNA is unlikely to yield any simple truths, at least in the short term. Native American groups like the Seaconke-Wampanoag have European and African as well as Native American ancestry. And as Theodore Schurr explains to those donating blood, "the initial results won't reveal a person's full heritage." They could point back to Metacomet's people-or to ancestors from another continent. "A fuller picture will emerge only after the project analyzes each person's full set of chromosomes and compares them with the Genographic Project's growing lode of DNA from other Groups." As some of us has been pointing out also, that the 12 marker results provided to the Genographic Project's participants, "the initial results won't reveal a person's full heritage" is just part of what it takes and requires to track a person's full heritage, "A fuller picture will emerge only after the project analyzes each person's full set of chromosomes and compares them with the Genographic Project's growing lode of DNA from other groups." Interesting that the article makes this type of quote but again never really quantifies in terms of DNA testing what a person's "full set of chromosomes" really is that is required in comparing to others. If you really understand DNA testing you know that it takes more than 12 markers to determine the "fuller picture." Another little bit of information for those participating in the role of DNA testing and what people tell others and don't tell others that is happening with their DNA. God Bless. 3. From: SC-Genealogy-L-request@rootsweb.com Audrey, do these abstracts have the name of the person receiving the land? I have searched for a long, long time for Thomas Donaldson who was in Abbeville when he enlisted Apr 1776, he survived the War and as far as I can tell continued to live in Abbeville County somewhere until he died there in 1811. OH! I just looked again at the dates of the volume you are talking about and it ends too soon. Do you have any suggestions for me? I know nothing about the man except his name. I have the names of his children because he died intestate, and I think I know the names of his two wives: Janet Reeve(s) and Mary Cook. I hope there is a lot more of me and my husband if someone should start looking 200 years from now!! Gloria Donaldson Wells gdwells@bellsouth.net

    3. Joanne, I have South Carolina Abstracts, 1719-1772, VOL. II, 1740-1755, Book V-P-P, abstractsed by Clara A. Langley. Even though it states VOL II., this looks like it covers a lot of years.
