I am seeking information on the Spivey's family that lived in Darlington District, SC. I have a Rebecca Spivey who married Thomas Hersey who I am related to. Thomas was also born in SC. If any one can help me in this..any clues to the rest of the Spivey's and maybe info on Thomas' parents...would appreciate it.... Stephanie Grohol

Hi Sara! While reading your post on Tolliver Robertson, I noticed at the end, your surnames you are researching-the Bramlett's!! I am out of the Bramblett/Bramlett's (Almon and Nancy Bramblett Gantt thru their son, Martin) of Laurens Co. Also, I find a Lucy Robertson married John Gantt in/about Laurens Co. John was the son of Almon and Nancy Bramblett Gantt. Is Lucy any relation to Tolliver Robertson? Also, later on, in/about 1860's, Andrew Jackson Chappell of Pickens Co. mar. Malinda Caroline Robinson/Robertson. After his death in the Civil War (POW camp-Camp Douglas, IL-1864), she returned to Laurens Co., remarried and had more children. AJ's brother, Joseph Chappell (both are sons of James/John Chappell and Abigail Boren/Bowen), married Terrissa Gantt, daughter of Martin and Sarah Thomasson Gantt and granddaughter of Almon and Nancy Bramblett Gantt. This gets quite interesting as the families seem to be intermarrying. So, this leads me to think the Chappell's and/or Bowen's were either from Laurens or nearby Newberry County (as everyone tends to believe.) I have seen Bowen's in Laurens Co. deeds and have seen Tolliver in some also. I could send them to you if you wish. They are scanned copies, so I could not post to the list unless I transcribe all of them (many pages!!!) Let me know what you think of all of this!! Patricia A. There were others, but they were scattered all over the place. The family of Simon DANIEL was in Clarendon County and had 2 males over 16; 7 males under 16; and 4 females of any age. These other three [3] families were in Claremont County and living very close together: Daniel 1-1-2 [yes, they really did name him Daniel DANIEL] James 1-1-1 Willaim 3-4-7 I hope that this will help some. Bill p.s. - does anyone have the 1900 Census for Kershaw County?
Lynda: There is at least one church by each of these names (except New Hope) in Laurens County. I remember another conversation about New Hope and Laurens County and I believe that it too was originally there perhaps, but I can't prove it. The rest of them are positives per the USCGS. See http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/web_query.gnis_web_query_form Where it asks you for "Feature Name", leave it blank. For state or territory, select or type South Carolina. For feature type, select "church". Where it asks for county, put in whatever county you want a list for (in this case, Laurens). (For the "Query Variant Name" question, I would suggest checking "yes"). You will now get a handy dandy list of every "church" in the county known to the USCGS both active and historical. You can do the same thing for bridges, schools, towns (populated places), on and on. This is a great research tool, enjoy. Your tax dollars at work! Thank you. York County is a possibility. A Little Note From, Shirley Krenzler ~>~
Shirley, I may have sent this twice by mistake! I hit the wrong key a minute ago and think I deleted an earlier message to you. I am researching the family of William McCaw of Chester County, SC, but I do not see any Hemphills in my data. Also try looking in York County, SC. The borders between Chester and York kept changing at that time period. There are McCaws buried in the Beersheba Cemetery in York County. I think they were all Presbyterian. Dorothy
I know Warrior Creek is in Laurens CO., Laurens, SC...I have been there. Lyn
