Hi Pam, I was disappointed your TALBOT didn't appear in the will book I have of Edgefield, and I looked in other Upper SC books as well. Handybook for Genealogists, Nineth Edition, Published by Everton Publishers, Inc, UT. Edgefield Formed: 1795 from District 96 Edgefield County, 129 Courthouse Sp., Edgefield, SC 29824-3631 (808) 637-4080 (Small portion of Aiken Co added to Edgefield in 1966) (Co Hlth Dept has b, d & bur. rec; Pro Judge has m & pro rec; Co Clk has land, div & ct rec) Doesn't give dates for records, so will guess that you can ask for them from the formation of county. Hi, There is a LEONARD family in Laurens, SC. Many times they brought the mother's name down in the family. However, there isn't much on TINSLEY that connects to anyone. Dorothy, There is a will of one, Robert GARDNER, 1806, however, he doesn't have a son, James. One, James GARDNER is mentioned on the will of Ambrose GORDON, 1804. Actually, James is "of GA" and one of the executors of this will. If you want the will from Edgefield of Robert GARDNER, I will type it in. We have a similiar interchange of GARNER/GARDNER in our family. Please note that Edward JONES' will gives his son, Joseph, just that. Elizabeth names him as Josiah. A common interchange of a given name; perhaps means the same. Other surnames seen on documentation indicates a relative and one way to track a direct line. I know many of you already know this, but there is always someone new beginning their research. The HITT family intermarried with POOL and ALTMAN, both direct lines. Audrey ----- Original Message ----- From: Audrey E. I can give you an address for your county in SC to look for will. Handy Book for Genealogists: Barnwell County Main Street, Barnwell, SC 29812-0723 (Clerk Court has Divorce, Court & Land records; Probate Judge has Marriage & porbate record; County Health Dept has b, d & bur rec) Usually, dates of the records are listed with the county, but Barnwell only gives where they can be found. We may assume the records begin at the forming of said county. Audrey This county was formed in 1798 from Orangeburg District. ----- Original Message ----- From: Vanessa Burzynski <burzynsk@swbell.net> To: <SC-Genealogy-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, May 24, 2002 11:40 PM Subject: Re: [SC] Wills of SC - Look up Request > Please forgive my ignorance.
