Ladies, Please forgive me for poking my nose into this discussion, but when I read the deeds, I got the impression that James and Jeremiah were the sons of Samuel and brothers to each other, not that James was the brother to Samuel. Since I'm new to deed research, I thought I'd follow this discussion to see what types of information one can find, and now I'm hoping you can explain what I misunderstood when I read the deeds in question. Thanks, Judy (I've edited the original note following for ease in reading and to save bandwidth) At 10:36 PM 6/4/02 -0500, you wrote: >GARDNER/GARNER used interchangeably on the following deeds. Hi Linda! I, too, would like the 1820 SC census Bolling's. One of my major brick walls has been Darcus Bolling (alternate spellings also) 1798-1880 who was married to James Washington Fisher, JR. A couple of other researchers and I believe her father may have been a Joseph Bolling. Darcus and James were married in Spartanburg District in the fall of 1815. They remained there for some years before removing to Greenville District and then into present-day Transylvania Co, NC. There is a brother named Dudley Bolling who may be listed in 1820 also. Thanks! Patricia A. Cantrell Columbus, GA "The truth of his origin is the birthright of every man." -Anonymous PACA1509@aol.com pacant1104@hotmail.com pacant1104@yahoo.com

Hi, This appears to be your family. Did you know Susannah's parents were BAKERS? Audrey Source: Will Book C, 1793-1800, SC: "Mary BAKER, 'Wifow and Relict of Richard BAKER late of Charleston.deceased. ' Dau: Sarah NORTH, wife of Edward NORTH, Esq., my plantation or farm and house in the Village of Washington on Charleston Neck, also my plantation called Sedate-Point on South New Port River, Liberty County, GA, and residue of my estate during her life. Grandchildren: Tucker NORTH, under 21 years, 4th son of said dau. Is unable to stand or walk, to be maintained and educated and protected from future 'Misery and Want,' and to share equally with his brothers and sisters in distribution of my estate; Edward Washington (NORTH), Richard Baker (NORTH) and John Laurens (NORTH); (others not named). Mentions: if dau. Should remarry or die, then estate to her child or children when youngest is 15 years old. Exors. And guardians of 'the rest of their brothers and sister.' Grandsons Edward Washington (NORTH), Richard Baker (NORTH) and John Laurens (NORTH). Wit: Joseph VESEY, Seth HARVEY, Abraham VESEY. D: 23 Apr 1794 P: 26 Sept 1796. R: nd. P. 328 (At same time qualified Richard Baker NORTH and 30 Nov. 1803 qualified John Laurens NORTH as executors.)" Note: I have typed this as written except for putting NORTH in brackets when they left the surname out. It seems a bit easier to follow the children if the complete name is written. Dorothy, I see some other deeds and will work on them. Sometimes the deeds can lend more info than a will. Hopefully, someone will have that will for you, but guess there is another Will Book for Edgefield and I plan to look for it. In a couple of deeds there are mention of names that may help. See James as a brother to Samuel GARDNER.
