I sure hope that you have better luck than I did on this end. Our local library only has his war stuff. I then checked out the local High School as it is closed down for the Summer adults can use it if they have children going there, or Grandchildren in the County school System at all. So I went to check them out and guess what, only his war stuff. Good Grief....................................you would think in this day and age a person would be able to access more on a famous person like him. Do I connect, well I don't know for sure but he sure played a big role in the life of my Greene line it would seem. His name keeps popping up. Gail ----- Original Message ----- From: "Audrey E. Hi Freda, At the bottom of your posts there is a surname, HERRON. Remember I asked you about HERRING and you said you didn't have that name. From VA to SC the names are used interchangably. Our Susannah POOL m. James HERRING. He was in AL by 1819 (Jefferson County) as a charter member of a Baptist Church there, along with John POOL and Huldah (HOLLOWAY) POOL. Your message looks like you got more from my books than I thought you had time, but then I don't know what time you went to bed, either... Yes Audrey we all know that but what do we all really know about the man himself. What I mean is this: We never see any mention of his parents, we never see any mention of his wife or his children. We always see he fought in this war or that, in this campaign or that. He was seen here or there but all of this was about the man's career and not his real life as a everyday human being. I mean he was a child at one time and had parents somewhere. I did get a short bit about his birth when and where, his wife his death and a lit of his children and where and where born and who they married but that was all. I still know nothing about his parents, siblings or grandparents. You see in my Greene line there was also a Nathanael Green in fact several of them, so I have often wondered if perhaps there was more than meets the eye there. Hey thanks, do you have more on him such as his siblings and grandparents and such. I have an early GA and VA Greene line and in that line was a Nathanael Greene so I have often wondered who the mans parents were. So do you have more than this or is this all there is that is known about the man well know as Gen. Nathanael Greene. Hello Does anyone know who the original Green Berry was? Or was the name originally Greenberry? I see this name across many different surnames and wonder if he was a general or ?? I also wonder who Jonathan Newton was? I see these names across so many lines, in SC and Georgia. Thanks for any hints, Gaila

Hi, Gail, Go online to the site for the National Archives and order a batch of forms which you can then submit to the NA for a search. If they find something on the individual, they will send you a bill, but it is very reasonable and well worth the family information you'll probably find. I say order a batch because you may want to follow up with what you find out from his military records by requesting a search for Pension or Bounty Land Warrants info in addition to his military service records. You can also ask for his wife/widow's pension application if she made one. Gen. GREENE led the men of the Appalachians down to fight against the British in NC before they marched to Yorktown and surrender. I'm sorry to say that I cannot help you with his family info for I have no connection to him other than my CANNADAY, HALE, and possibly other lines went to Guilford with him. BTW... I mean it is easy to find his military information and stuff like that which seems to be so very well known, but what about the man himself. Where in the world is that stuff kept? Thanks for any leads on this. Hi, Claudia, There is a line of CANNADAYs who were in southwestern VA before the Revolution. James CANNADAY from this line fought with Gen. Nathaniel GREENE at Guilford Courthouse in March 1781. He had a large family... perhaps some went to SC? Lorine, Hello - I enjoyed your site and did find several of the databases you mentioned. My question is, although I could find many ship' lists for the 1800's, I wondered if you have any for ships that arrived in South Carolina in the mid 1700's? My Schofields arrived on a ship with Rev William Turberville prior to 1752. I think your site looks so professional that it is easy to think it is a commercial site. Thanks for your hard work on the site. I have been asked and seen a couple of questions that might be answered by Dee Thompson. Please go to: www.rootsweb.com/~ncbladen/lookups.htm You will see a list of books from which Dee does lookups. You will need to subscribe to the NC Bladen list as instructed on that website. Once you subscribe, and write to the list be SURE to address your request to DEE and give her the reference number of the book(s) and your surnames. There are about 214 books so go easy on her. (lol) She has been most helpful to me and to all on the list. She is one in a million! The books cover N.C.; S.C.; and Ga. and possibly other states. Good luck. Claudia Get more from the Web.
