    3. Eldon, I see several wills for CLEMENTS in Surry County and a lot of the time the Isle of Wight families overlapped into surrounding counties, one of them being Surry. This is the way Brunswick reaches back: Prince George County, I.O.W., Surry > Brunwick. I can believe this; see the same families in all four counties. 3. Hello Gail, Thank you for responding. His wife Nancy Ann did sign her dower rights when they sold some land in 1804 but the deed does not give her maiden name but rather her married name. Her maiden name is what I would like to find. Edward died in DeKalb Co GA in the 1830s and the DeKalb Co courthouse burned in 1842 and destroyed all the pre-1840 records. What happened to his land. If he sold this land at any time it would be that his wife would have to sign away dower rights with him. That would stand as your proof of marriage. Or he may have listed her in his will which would stand to prove that union. There is not much in SC in way of marraige records as they were not required back then. 3. Please excuse the crossposting, but it's a lot easier. Looking for any others working on the family of James BLACKMON [b. ???? in Scotland - d. May 1831 in Fork Hill, Lancaster, SC]. He was married to Anna CLARK [b. @1764 in Scotland - d. before 1830 in Fork Hill, Lancaster, SC]. Hoping to find out more about both of their families, along with when they moved to the US. According to records I've been able to find, they had 6 known children, beginning in 1785, supposedly in SC. I do know that he shows on court records in a land deal in 1802. Anyone working on this family, please contact me and let's compare notes. Bill

    3. Anyone researching the above surnames/families of SC may be interested in these early Maryland records. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who feels they know more about these families. Thanks, Audrey Marylanders to the Carolinas before 1800 by Henry C. PEDEN, Jr: JORDAN "On August 14, 1723, John JORDAN, son of John JORDAN, late of North Carolina, conveyed to Richard TILGHMAN (TILLMAN), in consideration of L50 current money, 935 acres called Forlorn Hope, granted to Robert SMITH and sold to John JORDAN, Sr. and John JORDAN, Jr. and their heirs (reefer to the records of Kent County, Maryland), lying at the head of Chester River on the east side of Shewell Branch near one mile from Ducke Creeke road. Witnesses were Thomas Hynson WRIGHT, James EARLE, and Benjamin HALLOWELL. Acknoledged before Arthur EMORY and Solomon CLAYTON. "Benjamin HALLOWELL, of North Carolina, made oath that for about twelve years last past he has been acquainted with John JORDAN, Sr. and Charity his wife and that they did acknowledge John JORDAN, Jr. who is almost blind and had been for some time, to be their lawful son. John JORDAN, Sr. has been dead about three years. (Ref: Queen Anne’s County Land Records, Book One, 1701-1725, by R. Bernice LEONARD (1992), p. 88) "John JORDAN and Jane JORDAN were both buried on February 8, 1708 in St Paul’s Parish, Kent County, Maryland. Mary Ann JORDAN married Samuel DAY on February 17, 1723 in St Peter’s Parish, Talbot County, Marlyand. (Ref: Maryland Eastern Shore Vital Records, 1648-1725, by F. Edward WRIGHT (1982), p. 26.) "Mary HUTCHISON (HUCHISON) died in Kent County, Maryland and left a will dated February 19, 1721 (proved June 30, 1722). She left to her husband Robert HUTCHISON, 100 acres called "Hav Att All" on a branch of Worton Creek, which had been bequeathed to her by her former John JORDINE.
