There is one William BOLLING, but late. He is s/o Robert BOLLING and 2nd wife, Pattie P. MANN. You should be able to find a lot on this family on the Internet, such an old VA family. Actually, the genealogy of the BOLLING family (or what was organized by 1927, is in the book). I am curious about the surname TOWNSEND. I am posting this list also to the SC Lists because so many of these families migrated from Southside VA to SC. Audrey Source: "The Old Free State"(Lunenburg County, VA) Rev War Soldiers who served under… "The movements of the Lunenburg companies which served with the Northern army prior to the campaign in New Jersey and Pennsylvania are not known. But the companies of Captain James JOHNSON, Captain Edward GARLAND, Captain Nicholas HOBSON, Captain Peter GARLAND and Captain John STOKES participated in the military operations in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and at least the compainies of Captain HOBSON, Captain James JOHNSON and Captain peter GARLAND spent the terrible winter of 1777-78 at Valley Forge. It is highly probable that Captain Edward GARLAND’S company also was at Valley Forge, but the company’s records for that period have not been found. Hi, Do you have notes of James POOL from the Southside records? I think at one time I saw him as a son in law on a will of HUDSON, but cannot remember where that was. The HUDSON family is sure there. Also, Dolores, have you ever tried working through an intermarried name, like TRAYHAM to see if a POOL line was living in same area? Where are the TRAYHAMS from? I've often thought of working on deeds/wills of the HUDSON family of Southside just to see if I could find something substantial to cling to for both of us. Hi, I think we may have discussed this line before. What prompted me to do that data again had to do with seeing ALSTON as a cousin with one of our POOLS, but it is much later in TX. However, it is really possible it is the same ALSTON family of SC where POOLS also migrated from. But, I don't think that William POOLE is ours, just not enough left of the family, that I can tell. Actually, I was looking for more on POOLE, rather than ALSTON... Thanks Patricia, anyway. I hope this is OK to make a comment here. There are no 1890 census, all destroyed except for a minute few and no one seems to know just what "minute few" they are. I think a fire caused the destruction of said census. If we had this census many of us could make better connections. Yes, both BOLLING and TOWNSEND are in the book, "The Old Free State" but not listed as serving under Washington. BOLLING is, of course a very well-known name in VA, so a lot of info on them. Are you looking for a specific given name? I can do one of both and send what I find. Dolores, Whoever said James was the s/o John POOL & Mahulda was certainly in error. John POOL and James are contemporaries. John was b. 1755-60, making him very near the same age as James. I see your James in notes/deeds or wills of Southside VA and suspect we are missing a link that would give us the parents. It is my guess that John, James and a Henry POOL of Edgefield, SC may be brothers, but someone took Henry POOL (spelled that way) and connected him to the PETTYPOOL family. The same thing has happened with our John POOL, connected to the PETTYPOOL family, but records do not support this. I think your James POOL lived on Reedy Creek in one of the Southside counties of VA. The fact that there is a Gabriel POOL in your line, as well as ours, indicates a possible connection between the two families, but not father/son...probable brothers. Hi, The "book" refered to in that post was in reference to a set of two volumns of "The Old Free State" (Lunenburg County, VA) and I think the set is out of print. I took the military records from the first volumn that was posted to the list. The most popular list was of Washington's men who served from Lunenburg Co, VA. Umm...I guess if we should fall in where a particular county/state has this census, we would be lucky! Any of the southern states would be a good place to try to find information.
