    3. Polly I might have some information on Wade Wyatt Puckett if he was from South Carolina. I will not be able to check my records until Monday night when I get back home. Does any of your Pucketts come from South or North Carolina. 3. Gail, You mentioned having Puckett information . My husband`s ggrandfather Nathan L Clarke of Mississippi married Emily Lee Puckett in Mississippi. She had been the wife of Richard Presley Puckett. Her daughter Martha Ann Puckett married Nathan`s son George Powell Clarke. Quite a complicated relationship but interesting. I wonder if you go as far as Mississippi in the mid 1800`s with your Puckett Line. I think that Richard Presley Pucketts father was Wade Wyatt Puckett and his wife was a Carter. Any help will be appreciated. Polly Clarke

    3. I have been reading the Pace thread with some interest, but this is the first chance I have had to jump into the chat. I recently bought "OUR COLONIAL ANCESTORS..1619-1799" by Mr. Bruce A. Howard, P.O> Box 414,Quitman, Miss. 39355. The book deals with the PACE family and all of the families it has married into. It is often quoted from on the PACE GENFORUM. On page 179, "Another of the children of Francis PACE, was John PACE. He was born in Prince George Co., VA in the year 1748. As a young man he left home and went down into the Northwestern part of Brunswick Co. where he met, courted and married Miss Ann Russell, dau of Richard and Margaret Russell. This family resided in a number of places during the early years, lived in Granville Co.,NC for a period and then went back to VA. and lived at their former home in Lunenburg Co. until the end of the REvolutionary War. They later carried their family down into Spartanburg Dist, SC and finally into Greenville Dist.,SC where John died at an advanced age in the year 1825. The children of this family were: Isaac, Richard Russell, Stephen, John, Jr., Martha, wife of Benjamin Langford, Jerimiah R., Twitty, Francis, and Elizabeth PACE, wife of JOHN W. COTHRAN. This man is the direct ancestor of the author and the details of his life and those of his chidlren and grandchildren will be given in great detail in the second volume of this work." Hope this helps someone. You might consider writing to the author for any further research he has that was not included in this first volume. I am a descendant of the PACE family. 1. William L. Cochran b 1806 SC -
    2. Charlotte
    3. Because of the recent postings to this list regarding the surname COCHRAN, I wanted to share the information below with the list. I hastily add that I do not research the surname Cochran. Charlotte Tucker The Rev. William L. Cochran, the pastor of the church during the year of 1853-54 was born in South Carolina during the year of 1805. The oldest female in his family during the census of 1860 was Martha Emeline, born in 1826. He was, perhaps at the time, a widower and Martha was his daughter. His other children were Lucinda, born 1834; Samuel, born 1836; Jesse, born 1838, Eliza, born 1840; John, born 1842; Henry, born 1846 and Charles, born in 1848. Most of his children were members of the church. It appears that he lived in the community and participated in its life. It was his lot to again become pastor of the church in the immediate years ahead. . William L. Cochran served Mulberry Church as its pastor for the second time, this time being the years of 1860,1861, and 1862. SOURCE: Ulysses H. Abrams, A History of Mulberry Baptist Church 1818-1968: 34,36. Book is held by Samford University, Special Collections, Birmingham, Alabama.

    3. I dont know who could help, but writing the [email protected] list and the [email protected] lists might produce someone. If you hve the Program EXCEL, which is a spreadsheet, let me know and I can send you a file from MR. H.C. Ouzts that contain a lot of Watkins. It is not a proven gen. file, but a timeline grouping of families that seem to connect, where he can cut and paste folks into families as he finds info. I find his work more accurate than not. He does have Zedekiah Watkins, Rev. (b. 1792 SC, m.1. _ , 2. Mrs. Jane M. Clark (b. 1800 SC), 6/24/1849)[1850]. [CENSUS] he does not have him attached to a brother or a parent. I got the file 11/7/1999, so he may have added a lot more since them. I can get him to send the newer version, but you need access to the Program EXCEL. He may know how to save it for you to use it with another spreadsheet program, if you have one. 3. Audrey, I have Hezikiah. I have him from his birth until his death. I even have both of his wills, his law suite filed against him by the children of his second wife over the ownership of some slaves left to them by their father. I even have the law suit filed by Thomas Holland on behalf of Elizabeth Cockrum Holland and heirs against the 1/2 of his estate org. left to Sarah his third and final wife at his death the other 1/2 being left to Daniel Cockrum his son. This suit filed opon the death of Sarah the third wife. What I do not to this day know is ..........................Who the Heck was my own Grandmother the 1st. wife and mother of all six of the children of Hez. I know her only as Elizabeth The only record we find on her was the bible owned by George Washington Lafayette Cothran Son of William Cockrum and Mary "Polly" Spillers. George W.L. Cothran buried in Carroll Co. GA in the Old Sharpe Cemetery left this bible to his son: Ovid Dunlap Cothran Ovid died in Avon Park FL about 1940's Ovid left this bible to his widow and children. Zona Almeda Entriken Cothran one of the six children this bible was left to was my Father: Orrin Charlie Cothran b. 1911 Carroll Co. GA township of Jake, GA They moved to Avon Park, FL in the early 20 via a stop over in Worth Co. GA where the sixth child was born. Grandpa Ovid ran the cotten gin mill there. This is also where they met my Step-Father the first time and became friends. "The Newtons' (My Step-Father) moved with his widowed Mother and two sisters into Eagle Lake Florida to work at the first Grapefruit sectioning plant in the State of Florida on New Years Day 1922. His Uncle Nathan Davis met them at the train in Winter Haven Florida to drive them over to Eagle Lake in his Model-T Ford. (My Step-Father was 15 years old at this time) At this time the plant was being built.................my step-Father hauled bricks and blocks in a wheelbarrow and helped mix cement and did manual labor for the men to support his widowed Mother and two sisters. After 1 year he was Transfered and promoted..................Consilidated Land Company and Navel Stores Inc. moved him to Avon Park to run and oversee the new Canning Plant that stood near where the railroad tracks are today on the North end of town. My Grandfather Ovid and his son in law John H. Shivers boarded the Coastline Train and travled by train into Avon Park in about 1924. They stepped off the train and went over to the canning plant and looked up their old friend (My Step-Father) who gave them both jobs and took them home with him that night. You see as a very young boy..................my Grandfather had took my Step-Father home with him one night to sleep, the young man was last in line at the cotten gin in Cloverdale, GA Worth Co. and it was dark before his load was taken...........being a Father himself and knowing that it was not safe for the young man to travel with money on him after dark took him home to meet his wife and kids. My Step-Father and Father hit it off big time! My Step-Father was Nathan Wesley Newton Sr. b. 12/7/1905 Worth Co. GA to James Wesley Newton and Mary Elizabeth Davis Now not only were my Step-Father and Father friends but my father's older brother Carleton Edgar Cothran meet and married Minnie Ida Newton my Step-Father's Sister!" Anyway that is how this bible that goes back in time to Hezikiah Cockrum b. 2/19/1762 who married Elizabeth who d. by 1825 came to be in my possession. We have used us censuses and other documents to prove this bible as true. It even contains the death of Bethaney Spillers.................the Mother of Mary Spillers we think or her Sister that part is a little shady still. It could be that she had a sister and mother named Bethaney and that this death date is for her Mother. It would also make sense that her Grandson would take the time to record that information as well in his bible. The bible contains the handwritting of at least three different people over the years. I know that most likley either Harriett F. McColman recorded the death of George W.L. because he could not do that himself if he were the one dead...........or my Grandfather or his wife Zona did the recording of his death. The recording in this bible continued until both Ovid and Zona of Avon park were both dead. Gail [email protected] [email protected] BUT ALWAYS embracer and always searching!

    3. Teresa, One of my older cousins said that something took place in my direct liine in Spartanburg, SC. I have never found that event................you just wrote Audrey that there were PACE folks living in Spartanburg...................................I wonder if it is at all possible that Hez. found and Met Eliz. in Spartanburg, SC married her and then went back to Surry NC in time to have William in 1786! Gail [email protected] [email protected] BUT ALWAYS embracer and always searching!

    3. Audrey, The reason I asked is this, Peggy Chapman had a personal contact that sent me some information once. But I did not recieve any sourse information at all with the information. In that it said that a William was the son of Hezikiah Cockrum and Elizabeth PACE Cockrum and listed his date of death. This William seems to be My William which is my DIRECT link down From My Hezikiah. This William married Mary Spillers daughter of George Spillers of which we have proof via the Will of George Spillers of Greenville Dist. SC in which he names his daughter Mary wife of William Cockrum. My only problem with this above information is this "I can't seem to find proof either for or against and I hate to say a person is wrong if I can't prove that either, and I am also always grateful for any tid bits thrown my way" However if I can't find something out there to confirm this as fact, I can't and want add it to my file. I learned a long time ago this tends to confuse people and makes them think that it is fact when in fact it is not, it is just assumed to be so. Know what I mean? Help...........................................stumped!! WAS there ever an Elizabeth PACE who did indeed marry Hezikiah Cockrum of Greenville Dist. SC. FACTS: Hezikiah shows up on the 1786 Tax list as insolvant for Surry Co. VA His son and first child and my link William was born that year in Jan. in fact so it had to have been in Surry Co. NC. that he was born. Most times back then, the couple did not travel far from the place of marriage for the earlier children to be born......................NOT always, but most times.............so if this holds true with my bunch then I would guess that Hez. and Eliz married in Surry Co. NC between 1784-1786 timeframe. So I guess what I really need to know is what PACE families lived in or around Surry NC about the time of 1784-1786? Where was the Samuel Pegg/Pigg family in this timeframe and who lived next door to them as best as we know today? He may have married a neighbor girl to his Mother? I really don't care at this point who she was I just want to learn the truth about who my 4th Great Grandmother really was? Thanks for any and all help Gail [email protected] [email protected] BUT ALWAYS embracer and always searching!

    3. Gail, I think the will was written in Greenville, SC 1825 (John Pace). I don´t have the will , but portions of it are on Genforum PACE, search Greenville, Spartanburg and RUSSELL. John Pace married Ann Russell. I know he had sos named John JR, Stephen, and Jermemiah, bu there were more children. I´ll see what I can find.
