    2. Randall Frye
    3. In my haste to post a reply to Billie Jones on her inquiry concerning her unknown Roton family, I accidentally switched Pearl's name and that of her older sister (Bessie Trotter) when referring to Pearl's death. PEARL Mack Roton is the one who died 19 December 1978 at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood, SC. We know from Billlie's earlier post that Bessie died in 1959. My apologies for the error. 1. Re: Obit of Mrs. Bessie Mack Trotter, d. 9/30/1959
    2. Billie, Your mystery is solved. Bessie and the sister who married a Roton are children of Lou Koon Mack and grandchildren of Katherine Witt Koon. They are in the Witt book that I and two cousins published in 1998. I worked on this family personally and I'm pretty sure I have that Roton line traced down for a generation or two. I'm not sure if I have the Roton husband's parents, but I might have a death date that will lead you to a death certificate. If my memory serves me correctly, I think some of this family was living in the Coronaca area out near Lake Greenwood when we were researching our book. I am writing from work. I will check the book and send my findings to the lists you posted to this evening. Randall Frye Laurens, SC

    3. The following obit seems to have possibly been a minister of note, but I can find no connection to the Hazel/Trotter families and their relatives at this time. However, the Brooks name is certainly an old Edgefield Dist. surname. From age at date of birth (given), the obit was published ca 1957. From: Scrapbook of pictures and obits kept by Ella Ruth Hazel Trotter (1905-1963), d/o John Henry & Jamesanna Timmerman Hazel, (Copy provided by Betty Trotter, May 2004). The following obit is undated and the name of the newspaper is not known. The Rev. M. M. Brooks Maxey M. Brooks, 75, retired Methodist minister, died suddenly at this home in Roebuck Thursday afternoon, March 27, after a heart attack. He was born May 9, 1882 at Belton, son of the late B. B. Brooks and Sally Broome Brooks and attended school of his community, Wofford Fitting School and was graduated with an A. B. degree from Wofford College in 1911. Mr. Brooks was licensed to preach by the Anderson Dist. in July 1908, and was received in full connection by South Carolina conference at Rock Hill, Nov 28, 1913. He was ordained a deacon Nov. 30, 1913 and an elder Nov 28, 1915. He served the following appointments thoroughout SC: Williamston Circuit, Westminister, Inman, Gray Court, Greenville Circuit, Lexington, O'Neal Circuit, Newberry; Cambridge at Ninety Six, Starr, Pelzer and Calhoun Falls.
