    1. Barnwell County, SC Hadwin Questions
    2. First Question: I have seen in a couple of locations Sheldon H. Hadwin listed as the son of Anthony Hadwin. Do any of you have any idea if the initial "H" stands for Hansford? The death certificate of my gr-grandfather, John D. Hadwin, gives his father's name as Hansford Hadwin. I have been unable to find a Hansford Hadwin in any record. I thought maybe it was his middle name. Second Question: The death certificate of Nicholas Hadwin shows Piety Zorn as his mother. Based on the 1860 and 1870 censuses, cited below, it seems that Nicholas and Cornelius could be the same person. Do any of you know if Nicholas had a middle name? Cornelius, perhaps? 1860 Census Graham Post Office, Barnwell County, South Carolina, p. 381B (Image 88 of 340), 23 Aug 1860. Ancestry.com's census index has Piety's name recorded as Pritz Hadron. 1. RE: Folks mentioned in the will of Dr. Samuel Perryman, Edgefield Dist, SC, 1838
    2. Lee and Billie Jones
    3. Audrey Pool posted the following: "PERRYMAN, Dr Samuel - Box 75, Pack 1843: > > Will dated May 7, 1838. Wife: Sarah A. PERRYMAN, Zebulon Rudolph, Jr, Dr John P. BARRATT, Richard WATSON. Wit: Edna CALDWELL, Margaret A. HOLLOWAY, Simon PATTERSON. Chn: Wm, Sam'l, Richard Mumford PERRYMAN. 'Plantation in Lounds Co, AL owned by Dr. J. P. BARATT (BARRETT) and myself be sold and divided between my wife and chn. That the amt. owe me by Jas HAGOOD of Lounds Co., AL, formerly of Edgefield, SC be given back to said HAGOOD. Unto Hardy WHITE my colt.' Brothers and sistrers: Alex'r, Milton T. PERRYMAN, Martha GALLAUGHRER, Nancy MEDLOCK. 'My business in the hands of Beckham VAUGHAN of Lounds Co, AL be closed by him at least by ...etc." Abbeville, SC... I find some of the names very interesting and think that they are folks in my files, but not ones I am really working on. Zebulon Rudolph married Mary Elizabeth Watson. Mary Elizabeth Watson is the daughter of a Richard Watson but he died November 30, 1824. However he had a son Richard Watson. Dr. Samuel Perryman married Sarah. Richard Watson also had a daughter named Sarah for whom I have no husband. These next ones are of great interest to me as they seem to connect to my Dean line, desc. of William (1765-1830) and Nancy Bryant Dean (1764 - 1826). HARDY WHITE: I have a Hardy White married a Jane Clark, but have little info, other than the fact that they were named in the Will of Henry Clark made 8 April 1840, Edgefield Co, SC Proven May 4, 1840, so have Jane's siblings from that will. Since it was sent to me by Tom Sheffield, another Dean research of the desc. of William Dean and Nancy Bryant, which contained a William Dean Jr. who married a Catherine Clark, neice of Jane Clark who married Hardy White, this seems to connect them to my Dean line. MARGARET HOLLOWAY Margaret Holloway is probably Margaret Dean, daughter of William Dean Sr. and Nancy Bryant. She married Caleb Holloway. By 1840 census, Caleb Holloway and Margaret Dean are found in Chambers Co. AL. Find it interesting to find so many names I am familar with. Billie Jones Camden, SC [email protected]

    1. Cooper, Smith, Wilburn, Nicholson
    2. Does anyone know or have any information on the following family? John (or Miles) Smith married a Cooper (given name unknown) probably in the 1860's. They had at least four children as follows: Cora Smith, born 20 May 1868 in Union County SC. She married William O Nicholson about 1890. She died 23 Aug 1937 in Charleston SC. Her death certificate states her father's name was John Smith and her mother's surname was Cooper. Her obituary lists as survivors her sister Lizzie Wilburn of Union SC and two brothers Walter Smith and Clyde Smith of King's Creek (Cherokee County) SC. I have found the death certificate for Elizabeth "Lizzie" Smith Wilburn who was born in 1870 in Union County SC. She died 3 June 1943 in Union County SC. She was a widow at the time of her death and it does not give her husband's given name. Her death certificate states her father's name was Miles Smith and her mother's surname was Cooper. I have not located the two brothers, Walter and Clyde Smith, who were living in Cherokee County SC at the time of their sister Cora's death in 1937. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. 1. WADE surname
    2. Eldon Wade
    3. Hi Folks, I have organized a surname group for researchers of the WADE surname. The group will use a combination of traditional source document genealogy and genetic genealogy (DNA) to further our genealogies. The objective is to sort out the WADE lines and hopefully find where they connect. All those who descend from WADE lines, including those with variant spellings of the surname, such as WAID, WAIDE, etc., are encouraged to join. We currently have seven members in the project and growing. This is not a commercial undertaking and the only thing I personally stand to gain from the project is expand my genealogy (and hopefully you will expand yours). This is your opportunity to establish scientifically what your paper genealogy could not do by itself. You can learn about the WADE project (and genetic genealogy in general) at the web site here: http://home.cfl.rr.com/wade3/ Thank you, Eldon

    3. Hi Margie, I have Puckett's, but I think they were from the Union Co., SC area. There was not a William among them, that I can find. My earliest known Puckett ancestor was Miles C. Puckett b. c. 1813. He was a Methodist minister and road the circuit. Both his wives were from Union Co., SC. Do you know anything about them? 1. Pouncey lineage
    2. JOANNE HARLEY
    3. I have been sorting through the Pouncey lineage, and suddenly have more questions than answers. Is anyone working on this family? There are links to the John family, and I am interested to know how. Charity, the only known daughter of the first Anthony to Marlboro Co. ca. 1749, supposedly married a Mr. John. Her brother, Anthony, Jr. left property to a Jesse John sometime after the REv. War period. He also left most of his estate to his brother, Samuel's sons. The Pouncey family lived on the border of Marlboro & Marion Counties, so legal papers have been recorded in both counties. Their home was just above the Cashway Ferry area. The family eventually married into several other prominent families in the area. Would be interested in hearing from anyone with information on this lineage. Joanne Harley [email protected]

    1. Who is George TIMMONS and Ann BONNEAU who were members of Stono Particular Baptist Church in 1736?
    2. Ray Timmons
    3. "South Carolina Baptists 1670-1805" by Leah Townsend, printed by the Florence Printing Company in 1935, lists a George TIMMONS, Ann BONNEAU and several ELLIOTT's as members of a Particular Baptist Church at Stono in 1736. Apparently, the church had been doctrinely divided for years between General and Particular Baptists, but had meet in harmony until a Rev. Robert Ingram stirred up the Calvinist Particular Baptists and they split. From what I can find on the Particular Baptist, they were started in England about 1633 and believed in predestination and did not believe in infant baptism (much like the Huguenot's). Any idea who the Rev. SIMMONS who testified before the Commons House about the split? The notes list the source as Edwards, Crozer MS, but does not list this source in the Bibliography. Does MS mean manuscript? Is this manuscript at Furman? According to the notes, the Stono church was on the Stono River in St. Andrews parish. Any idea where that is? There seems to be a Stono below Charleston near James Island Park and West from there, a Stono Point. Ray

    1. Re: SC-Genealogy-D Digest V04 #215
    2. Hello, Well, I usually am looking at this List for my Marsh ancestors, but I also descend from Abraham Estes through his son Richard. The Estes intermarried in GA with my Kyle, Sanders and Mitchell relatives several times, so I have a lot of Estes blood in me. Have you ever corresponded with David Estes in Australia? He has a huge database of descendents of Nicholas Estes. And I have a large list of descendents of Richard Estes. There is also a magazine called "Estes Trails", have you seen it? If not, I can put you in touch with the publisher.
