    2. Eddie Cox
    3. On the Greenville Co. S.C. 1860 census, Edward Couch is 75, his wife Sarah is 60. Edward is living next to Susan Cox, age 70. Susan was said to be a Couch before she married John Cox. Does anyone have information on the possible connection between Edward Couch and Susan Couch Cox? Thanks, Eddie

    3. I am trying to find parents of Laban Kelley b. 1797 in SC. Laban married Tirzah Christan b. 1803 in Elbert County, GA. Tirzah was the daughter of Nancy Higginbotham and Jesse George Christian. I suspect that Laban's father was Elijah Kelley b. abt. 1755 in NC d. abt 1800 SC. Children: Elijah b. abt. 1781 Spartenburgh County, SC Garrett b. abt. 1791 Spartenburgh County, SC Ephraim b. abt. 1795 Spartenburgh County, SC (married Jane Higginbotham) Elisha b. abt. 1795 Spartenburgh County, SC (married Dolly Higginbotham) **I believe that Laban b. 1797 SC fits in here**(married Tirzah Christian, daughter of Nancy Higginbotham) Joseph b. abt. 1801 Spartenburgh County, SC (married Dicy Higginbotham) Several things lead me to believe that my Laban Kelley is connected to Elijah: Elijah had several children who married into the Higginbotham family of Elbert County, GA, and my Laban married a daughter of Nancy Higginbotham of Elbert County. Elijah's children were born in Spartanburgh County, SC between the years 1781 and 1801. My Laban Kelley was born August 8, 1797 in SC. Elijah had several children who moved from SC to Perry County, Tennessee in the early 1820's. My Laban Kelley is listed on the 1830 Perry County census and on the 1832 Perry County Tax List. Also, my Laban Kelley's first 3 children were born in Tennessee. Elijah's family has recurring names within the family. Some of these names are Elijah, Riley, Nancy, and Joseph. These same names recur in my Laban Kelley's family. Finally, my Laban named his first born son Jesse George after his wife's father, his second born son was named Elijah (after his own father???), and his third born son Laban Christopher after himself. His first born daughter was named Nancy Teresa after his mother-in-law and his wife. Please let me know your thoughts on this. I would appreciate any input anyone might have.

    1. Re: [SC] Addison
    2. Knowing the vagaries of census takers it is certainly possible that the Atkinson you found in 1870 is the Addison you found in 1880. I agree that you cannot decide based on this alone that he is the one you're looking for. Can you find anything else to tie them together -- such as other family members or notices of marriages or deaths. Also, have you checked other states, such as North Carolina, to see if he was there in 1870? Absent any other leads then I think I would pursue this until it was proven one way or the other. Good luck, James Nicholson [email protected] In a message dated 8/15/2004 1:08:25 PM Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: I am looking for my great grandfather, Henry Addison, in the 1870 census. In 1880, he is living in Kershaw County, South Carolina, with his wife, Francis and their children. In 1880, he is 28 years old, which should put him around 18 years old in the 1870 census. No matter how I search his name, or look at the 1870 census, I cannot find him. I finally did a soundex search on Ancestry and found one person who fit the description. His name is Henry Atkinson, he is 18 years old and he lives in West Blackstock, Chester County, SC. When I look for this same Henry Atkinson in the 1880 census, I find his father, Edward, but I cannot find him. I am not relying on this information to say that he is my great grandfather, but does anyone think this may be a possibility I should explore?

    2. Don't mean to jump in here, but there were two John THOMASES in Sptg. who fought in the ARW. I know that mine was from Richmond, VA and was not the other John THOMAS (who was more famous for his ARW efforts). Both men lived only a few miles from each other, and they have often been confused. Mine was married to Nancy BRANNON/BROUGHTON. They had a son who was Broughton THOMAS, d. 1852, & also lived Sptg. Co., SC (I desc. from Broughton). I am at my dad's bec he is ill, but have tons of info at home & will be happy to share what I have on both men. Sorry I don't have access to it now. It seems to me that the more famous John THOMAS was md. to a SMITH; can't remember for an absolute certainty, but I think that's correct. 3. Audrey, I do not know that, I happen to have that Book, and was sharing, and thought that information might be of some help to you, there is another , Thomas listed, Rowan Thomas, has been a resident of Marion District S.C. , for 52 years, (this is dated Mar. 06, 1838, and he lived previous in Cumberland Co, N.C. Was a Private in the Rev. war. Also, this Martha Millroee, widow ( of William Millroee) a resident of Anderson Dist.S C for 54 years , listes these children for them, , Mary Poole, Sarah Hunnicutt, Nancy Dalrymple, John Millwee, William Millwee and Martha Millwee, (yes that has the spelling two ways, and I have abstracted this , dated 30 Aug. 1850 dorothy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Audrey Pool" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, August 09, 2004 8:12 PM Subject: Re: [SC] Alford? & THOMAS > ----- > >

    3. Dorothy, How do you know that is our John Robert THOMAS? If he was from Spartanburg, that is a good clue for us. There were POOLES there who I'm sure were related, just can't prove it. One wonders how many of us need that ONE missing clue that would connect generations! 3. Hi Freda, I WILL GO to Ted's site! Ray will want to see it as well. I guess he puts his pics on a site so any and everyone can see, right? I sometimes forget how convenient the Internet is in relation to what you and I grew up with. Gosh. Do you know Billie Jones of SC? She would be one to speak with, I think, about where to search once you get there. I have a map of where the POOLS lived on Halfway Swamp on the Saluda River - Edgefield. You have surely seen Billie on the Edgefield-L. Between Ray and Mom's lineages, Billie and us have several lines together. Also, Billie goes to the archives often and retrieves records, the kind that help put everything in perspective. I copied off your previous post telling me when you leave, but I see it stuck at the back/side of my computer. Didn't want to forget. Did you ever accept that your ROBERTSON/ROBINSON families were from Southside VA? That sure looks like one of those families that migrated to SC; also the REGANS of Surry Co, VA. Maybe someone at the reunion will make those connections. Your trip sounds wonderful and I hope both of you have a great time!
