How do I get to information about Old Craven County, S.C.? From the S.C. Migrations page it appears this county was discontinued in 1769. I find mention of it on the S.C. GenWeb page but I can't access the site.
Can someone direct me to the web site that contains a map of the old S.C. counties (1600s & 1700s)?

fyi...this is a very good site to post info on your families - as well as look for info on allied families... They came for a season, they left and went where? Why did they go and who went with them? So many questions about the migrations of our ancestors. http://www.migrations.org/index.html
Try clicking on DESCENDANTS CHART, then CONTENTS then OPTIONS. We are using FAMILY TREE MAKER 2005. While it is a great tool, the manual is short on assistance. During an experiment, we attempted to learn something about CHOOSING BETWEEN DESCENDANT AND DIRECT DESCENDANT TREES. This item can be found on the tool bar as CONTENTS. The option that I have been using all this time was perfect for my need, so I was foolish for tinkering with the system. The resulting report that I now get, when attempting to print a DESPONDENCY CHART, is a page that has nothing on it but a mass of sentences reading like below: 1 Change Secondary Individual .. +Change Secondary Individual .. 2 Change Secondary Individual ...... +Change Secondary Individual ...... 3 Change Secondary Individual ...... 3 Change Secondary Individual etc Help anybody? Hi I was wondering if someone would be able to lookup an Obituary Notice for me please. It should be in The State dated May 30, 2005 for a Vera Ferne STRATTON. I would like to know if there is a reference to an H. Charles STRATTON, and if so what relationship (if any) is noted. If so, it means that I may have found an elusive relation and can accordingly follow the matter up. With thanks and Happy Holidays Garry F Bell Auckland, New Zealand
Richland County Library - Main Branch - Assembly Street - Columbia, SC has an index of most of the obits in the State newspaper from late 1800 to present day except from 1918 until late 1930s. The gap is due to the fact that these early newspapers did not list the obits in a column as they do now. At this time work is being down to complete the obits by reading the newspapers on microfilm and making an index. The staff in the library are most helpful. This information is in the periodical section of the library.
Gary, Their webpage only list the obits for the past week. Try sending your message to: stateobits@thestate.com and ask them for the obit from May. Hope this helps. dts
I have been searching for my GG grandfather James O'Connell (probably son of James O'Connell and Johanna Hagerty) b. ca 1806 (Kerry, Munster,?) Ireland who married Bridgett McGillicuddy prob. in mid 1840's and emigrated to Savanna, GA where a unknown brother and family lived. Within a few years James, Bridgett and 2 children and moved to Charleston, SC where 5 other children were born. I don't know if his brother and family moved there with them. Between the mid 1850's to mid 1860's James and all of the children but Mary (b. 1851) and her mother Bridgett died of yellow fever or diseases prevalent in the south at the time. Searching for the cemetery the family might be buried in I was sent the following O'Connell burials for St. Lawrence Cemetery in Charleston, SC. In sharing these records I am hoping someone might connect to my O'Connell line and contact me. Happy Holidays Jan in WA jmh460@verizon.net From: Diocesan Cemeteries Office, Charleston, S.C. Hi Margie, We've worked on the PUCKETTS of SC before, also HOLIDAYS. I don't do GA research except in rare cases, don't have too much literature on that state.
