    3. I have updated the bibliography section of the website, adding books and articles about religious dissent or Dissenters in South Carolina during the Colonial Period. http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~dwb1/dissenters/dissenters.htm I am still looking for the list of members from the congregations in Essex County who separated themselves and moved to South Carolina in 1696. It is believed that they came from congregations in Salem Village (now Danvers), Newbury, and Andover Mass. They most likely came in two vessels, one that shipwrecked on Cape Fear and the other that followed Cotton Mather, the nephew to the renowned separatist lecturer from Harvard. Deborah Byrd

    2. D. W. Byrd
    3. Hello all I think that I have a proposed ancestry for Henry Spry, but no time to pursue the research, so I am casting the lure upon still water, and maybe someone on this very quite list will take up the gauntlet. I believe that he maybe the son of Henry Spry that died intestate in Maryland 1679, St. Mary's county. Henry may be the son of Oliver Spry who also died intestate about 1650's. Oliver's wife left a will naming her "only daughter" so researchers have assumed that they had only one child and have not pursued other family members. Oliver along with Bennet moved to Maryland from Virginia during the Quaker exodus of the 1640's. I believe that Oliver is connected to Sir Henry Spry of the Second Charter of the Virginia Company. Sir Henry Spry was a well renowned Soldier of Fortune of the Low Country Wars who went to the Battle of the Isle of Rhe and returned a broken old man over the loss of lives at the foolish attempt to fight the French. Sir Henry left every thing to his wife Francis, when he died in 1627, but I have not be able to find Francis's will to see where she disposed of her goods. They were living in Middlesex county England at the time of Sir Henry's demise. Any History buff willing to take up the gauntlet, and solve the mystery? I would love to, It is driving me buggy, but I don't have the time right now and the more the merrier. Deborah Byrd

    2. D. W. Byrd
    3. If you are having problems receiving posts from mailing lists and you are on one of the big ISP's MSN, AOL, PeoplePC etc, they have VERY strong spam and anti virus controls. These controls have a tendance to place mass mailings such as rootsweb mailing lists in the spam category. You may have to place each mailing list on your "white mail" list inorder to receive the mail. As admin, the Robot sends me the please respond to notes the mailing list gets in order to pass the spam test. Unfortunately all that does is allow my admin address to get through the filters. So if your ISP has the ANTI-SPAM filters or you have installed the industrial strenght filters or moved to the new world of DSL and now have firewalls with filters, you will need to check your filters and white lists to ensure that the mailing lists are not being shunted to the spam garbage disposal. 3. we have a whole new world of mailing lists. RootsWeb.com mailing lists will be moving to a new list management system called Mailman over the next couple of weeks. Rootsweb has changed the list to new servers beginning today. The new list names will be the same mailinglist@rootsweb.com Note the L has been removed. Old address mailing-L@rootsweb.com New address: mailinglist@rootsweb.com If you have filters, you should set them to allow mail from the list as: mailinglist@rootsweb.com Both email addresses will still work for a while for sending e-mail but you may not receive it if you don't change it in your address book Remember those on the digest mode send their email to the new address of mailinglist@rootsweb.com Digest numbers will be out of sequence during the change over. Let me know if you have any concerns or questions. I don't know how this will affect AOL users. That system seems to be touchy about change. We will both be learning about the change over. Most things will be seamless. I think most of the change will be on my side of the of wall. Have fun today. Deborah Byrd List Mom

    1. Hendricks DNA Project Update
    2. Herbert Hendricks
    3. Hendricks DNA Project Update 06/17/2006 Note: 26 Hendricks Groups with results or partial results from 56 posted out of a total of 61 DNA participants Our Web Site Address at FTDNA is http://www.ftdna.com/public/hendricks/<http://www.ftdna.com/public/hendricks/>. A copy of the DNA results for each group and a mini-lineage is available via request to Herb_316@MSN.com<mailto:Herb_316@MSN.com> Summary 1. Pamunkey (VA) Hendrick Nordic Haplotype instead of Western Europe. DNA profile established. A fourth DNA participant has matched to this group (37 markers). Deep Clad results indicate Nordic possible routing to Dutch location per Ben Hendrick. 2. Frontier Hendricks Nordic Haplotype instead of Western Europe, Two Mile Creek, Spartanburg District, SC Hendricks group identified as Frontier Hendricks. Also Isaac Hendrix group that went into Franklin Co., GA. DNA profile Established. We now have 6 Frontier Hendricks with 37 marker results which has solidified two sons of Albertus Hendrixson, Jacobus and Johannes and another Frontier Hendricks with 25 marker results for a total of 6 in this group. 3. Daniel Hendrick of MA Nordic Haplotype instead of Western Europe; DNA profile Established. Five DNA participants plus the Daniel Hendricks of Bertie Co., NC all seem to match for a total of 7 participants for this group. A Martin Hendrix has had a deep clades test. 4.. A Daniel Hendrick Sr. of Bertie Co., NC descendant, Jabesh Hendricks of NC, to Edgefield Co., SC to Bullock Co., GA does not match prior Albemarle Hendricks participant, however another Jabesh Hendrick matches the Daniel Hendrick of MA group within the same difference within the Daniel Hendrick of MA Group. It was concluded the first Daniel Hendrick Sr of Bertie Co., NC descendant Jabesh Hendrick is considered to also match the Daniel Hendrick because of a fast moving mutation site. Another cousin of the Bullock Co., GA group will also be tested. Therefore at this time it is considered that the Daniel Hendrick of MA and the Daniel Hendricks Sr. of Bertie Co., NC has the same common descendant in Daniel Hendrick of MA. 5. Proof of two Albemarle Hendricks groups early on in Eastern NC? See 39586 and 28876, also see Patti Mulnix book on Daniel Hendricks Sr. of Bertie Co., NC. 5. Moses Hendricks m Susanna of SC not Frontier Hendricks. Eastern Europe Descent, DNA Profile Established, five participants. One had his DNA done at Relative Genetics. All five relatives have an excellent match to prove Moses Hendricks m Susanna's DNA profile... 6. James Hendricks m Jane of SC not Frontier Hendricks. Western Europe Descent, DNA Profile Established, four participants. A deep clades test results lead to a dead end due to lack of sufficient data base and an earlier defined grouping. 7. Nordic descent dominate group of Hendricks as to date 4/07/2006 8. Newberry County/District SC Hendricks before 1800 all four groups identified via DNA. Searching to identify another group found there shortly after 1800; Garrett Hendrick wife Ruth Family. HDH Note: this is not old Garrett Hendrix wife Mary. 9. The only Lexington Co., SC Hendricks to date does not match to Frontier Hendricks per Dr. J. S. Davenports' research conclusions in Frontier Hendricks. DNA participant 37994 has K-2 Haplotype from Lexington, SC... We have finally obtained a DNA sample from the Lexington Hendrix group; Tobias Hendricks m Margaret Sprenckel. Results of this test show this Tobias Hendricks m Margaret Sprenckel group to be Frontier Hendricks. 10. The Henry Hendricks b NJ 1730 Group is now up to 4 DNA candidates and is showing 37 markers test an excellent match to all the participants. 11. We now have a Hendrickson with an N haplotype, with no matches to another group. See definition at end of DNA Chart. 12. Group 3 James Hendricks has two participants with an exact match between both participants. 13. The Henry Hendrix m Martha Marput of Newberry, SC and the Archibald Hendrix of Lexington, SC has matching Haplogroup of K-2. See description at end of DNA Chart. 14. We have two DNA participants whose lineage is Gov. William Hendricks of IN. Note this lineage does not match to the Frontier Hendricks lineage predicted by Davenport, Wright and others of the Hendricks Family Association. God Bless. 1. Re: [SC-DISSENTERS] Family Chronicles
    2. Herbert Hendricks
    3. Dear Tree Mother, "the Swedish group in Delaware who established Old Swedes Church" From our Frontier Hendricks files, it seem that some of the Frontier Hendricks were associated with this Church. Some of these early frontier Hendricks seemed to be Quakers but moved on, some into SC early were Presbyterian and later switched to Methodist. One moved to FL in Spanish territory and converted to Catholicism. One of our problems I have been working on is sorting out more of the MD Hendricks as there seemed to be at least 2+ groups of Hendricks. However working MD Archives on-line is limited (only one county with wills) as they do not have as much stuff posted on line as even SC Archives. PA has many Hendricks groups and they have much work remaining to sort out. Our data base on the VA Hendricks to KY, NC and SC is real good and two Frontier Hendricks groups are about all there is in VA. We do have a couple of extraneous Hendricks/on in VA that have not been completely identified. The NC Hendricks are fairly well sorted but we haven't got a lot of NC Hendricks DNA participants. We keep finding errors in NC and SC Hendricks connections when DNA testing is done. In SC we have at least 17 groups of Hendricks before 1800. Some are from the same group but in different locations. We have identified and sorted via DNA 8 of these groups. However getting some to participate even when you pay for the DNA testing has been more difficult than one realizes. However we're still working on it all. We're currently trying to catalog all the SC Hendricks and putting them in groups where we can starting with the first about 1696 and going to 1820+. Lot of just sorting out. It is not that we don't have the data base but it just takes time to sort, fetch cut and paste and write it all up. God Bless. 3. Dear B. Medlin, "Which bunch of Hendricks does your association represent?" We try to represent them all. We now have 22 different groups of Hendrix/ck/s/on and 58 DNA participants. The main groups are : 1) Frontier Hendricks, PA, VA, NC, SC, KY, TN, etc 2) Pamunkey (VA) Hendrick, VA, KY, NC, SC, etc 3) Daniel Hendrick of MA 4) Daniel Hendricks of Bertie Co., NC - Jabesh Hendricks, NC, SC, Bullock Co., GA, etc 5) Moses Hendricks m Susanna, Fairfield Co., SC to Pendleton District, Pickens District, SC, etc 6) James Hendricks m Jane, Newberry Co., SC, Pendleton District, SC, Pickens District, SC, Blount Co., Tuscaloosa Co., AL, etc 7) Lexington and Newberry Co. SC Hendrix, PA, NC, SC AL, FL 8) Many others but to numerous to list. If you go to http://www.ftdna.com/public/hendricks/<http://www.ftdna.com/public/hendricks/> you can see the groups and all their lineage charts ~54. "My SC Hendrix (earliest ones spelled it Hendricks, changing before 1800 to -ix) line was in Spartanburg District, SC, by the time that area was established as a county in 1785" The Spartanburg Co., SC Hendricks are what we call the Frontier Hendricks. They descend from Albertus Hendricks 1640-1715 of Chester Co., PA. The group you cite are as follows: 1. Albertus Henrixsen m Helchy ca 1640-1715, Chestr Co., PA 2. Johannes Hendrickson m Rebeckah, PA 3. James Hendricks m Elizabeth , PA, Orange Co., NC to Spartanburg Co., SC. 4. We have tested DNA participants from three of his sons. a) Thomas Hendricks m Sarah Van Hook, PA, Orange Co., NC to Russell Co., VA b) James Jr. m Frances Lea, PA, Orange Co., NC to Spartanburg Co., SC and c) Isaac Hendricks m Nancy PA, Orange Co., NC, Spartanburg Co., SC to Franklin Co., Ga.. DNA tests prove this group of Hendricks originated from Nordic countries, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Iceland, Viking Descent. It is possible that the William Hendricks you talk about is one of James Hendricks m Elizabeth sons, or one of his grandsons. James Hendricks son of James Hendricks Jr. m Frances Lea stayed in Spartanburg along with at least two William Hendricks (One Sr and the other Jr.) The elder seemed to be a lawyer from all the court actions he handled. Most of the other grandsons of James Hendricks m Elizabeth went to TN, AL and GA. Do you have a lineage chart to share with me? If you do, I might be able to steer you to which son you are descended from. If you could cite for me the land they owned and given name I might be able to make a connection from our land deed files for Spartanburg Co., SC. We go up to about 1850. My Hendricks line is from the James Hendricks m Jane line that came into Newberry and moved to Pendleton District, 1803. Your Hendricks Family Assn is of even more interest to me. Which bunch of Hendricks does your association represent? My SC Hendrix (earliest ones spelled it Hendricks, changing before 1800 to -ix) line was in Spartanburg District, SC, by the time that area was established as a county in 1785. One tradition says they came from Germany, another says from NC, neither presenting any evidence. One of my brick walls which should be surmountable is in the Hendrix line. My great grandfather moved from Abner's Creek to the lower portion of Greenville County before the civil war and we have not been successful in identifying his grandfather, though we are quite sure we are within the "William Hendricks of Abners' Creek" line. Are your Hendricks in the Low Country only or are they connected to those in Spartanburg Co? Thanks, B. Medlin ============================== New! Family Tree Maker 2005.
