I'd love to know more about the family of Mary Moore b ca 1767 SC who married Jasper Byerley, Jr. The ferry went from Newberry to Abbeville, I'm told, and was inherited via Jasper's dad, also Jasper Byerley, who inherited it from the Shearer family who is likely of the family of Jasper Byerley, Sr's unknown first wife. Why else would someone will a ferry to someone not of the same family? You may contact me directly at df99md@verizon.net if you wish. AT any rate, in TN Mary lived near a Jessie/Jesse Moore and a Wm. Moore, as well as a Zachariah Chaney (Chain) Moore. Does anyone know anything about this woman who may have the most common name on earth? Here are notes from the family genealogist : I think the idea that Jasper Byerley's wife was Mary Moore came from the files of Mr. Will Parham, a professional genealogist who worked in the Blount Co. area back in the 1930's. He did "Early Ancestral Lines" on Joseph Moore says that "there are 3 Mary Moore's in this generation, first cousins: daughter of John Moore and Jane Walker who in 1786 m her cousin, John Walker; dau. of Capt. James Moore and and Martha Poage who m Rev. Samuel Brown and dau of Joseph and Eleanor."
