Last Tuesday, 28 Feb 2012, my neighbor Ann Reynolds and I traveled to Sedalia SC to meet with surveyor Ralph Smith and Union County resident and Padgett's Creek friend Jack Burnett, Jr., for the survey of the Padgett's Creek Cemetery. The surveyor marked and mapped and we photographed approximately 75 marked gravestones, boulders, and sink holes in the one acre plot. We are now waiting for the surveyor's plat map and database (plus invoice!) to be delivered to me so that I can match last week's photos with the map. I will also be able to compare the sets of older photos that I have so that we can possible see any changes that have occurred. We believe, for instance, that two Gist markers, located outside the brick Gist enclosure have been removed to nearby historic Rose Hill Plantation for safe keeping. If you have old photos that you can scan and send, it would be good to have them so that we can observe changes through time. We were lucky with the weather and were very happy to meet Ralph Smith and Jack Burnett. We also visited the Union County Museum and met Director Ola Jean Kelly; there is a wonderful collection there of Union County artifacts and furniture as well as an historical library and family history collection. With everyone's help, I will be updating the 2010 Padgett's Creek report for sharing soon. As always, I welcome your comments, questions, and support. **Remember, please,** if you want to reply to me personally, direct your email to jrussell2@charter.net If you just hit "reply," your comments will probably (depending on your email software settings) go to the entire list.
