Sue, It was not the Marsall that had all the excellent references on Penny that should be a good starting ground for verification but a "Barefoot" researcher. Here is a link to her site and Penny is in her maternal line. Scroll down on the right. Here is a quote from page two on your Thomas/Hunt. Maybe your can verify this marriage record. I know that Ky did have marriage records for that time period. Do you have Ancestry.com? If not I can look it up for you. *3*.Thomas/^2 /PENNY (Henry/^1 /) was born in 1783 in South Carolina. He died 19 November 1851 in Darke County, Ohio at age 68, and was buried in Old Ludlow Cemetery, Laura, Miami County, Ohio Thomas married Christiana HUNT, daughter of Ralph and Rachel (Campbell) Hunt, 22 October 1807 in Ohio County, Kentucky. In the absence of her father, Henry Penny made an oath that Christiana was over 21 years of age. Christiana was born 6 October 1779 in South Carolina and died 20 January 1857 in Darke County, Ohio at age 77 years, 3 months and 14 days. She was buried in Old Ludlow Cemetery.Christiana, a Quaker, was disowned from the Cane Creek Monthly Meeting, Union County, South Carolina on 20 June 1801. The cause was not stated. Her father Ralph was born circa 1740, probably in New Jersey. After his wife Rachel died 18 March 1790 in South Carolina he married Mary Cook 3 January 1793. Ralph died in 1803 in South Carolina. In the mass migration of Quakers from South Carolina northward, several of Ralph's and Rachel's children moved to Warren County, Ohio. At least two sons, Ralph, Jr. and Isaiah, and daughter Christina went to Ohio County, Kentucky. Thomas Penny was first found on the property tax rolls for Ohio County, Kentucky on 30 July 1808 with 100 acres on a fork of Long Falls Creek. The 1810 federal census for Ohio Countyshowed him with a wife and 3 young sons, and he remained on Ohio County tax rolls through 1814.By 1820 he and his family were in Union Township, Miami County, Ohio. Known children of Thomas/^2 /PENNY and Christiana HUNT, both born in Ohio County, Kentucky, were as follows: +14i.John F./^3 /PENNY, born 18 June 1808; married Mariah MCCLAIN. +15ii.Henry PENNY, born circa 1809; married Agnes MARCUM. Based on census records Thomas and Christiana likely had at least one additional son and two additional daughters. Those children have not as yet been identified.
Vivian, This is great, yes I know Joyce Magee. I met her years ago through Bev Marker from Gettyburg Ohio. We used to play bridge many years ago. I also collect antiques so I would run into at antique shows. I don't know your daughter but I've heard of her. Are they the ones that owned Henry St Clair home? When I started this research back in the 80's we didn't have the luxury of the internet. I didn't find much then other that we know Elijah was our 3 gr gf. We have an old reunion book that someone kept family records but didn't do a very thorough job. It starts with elijah but no mention of his father. I found a man in Laura that had written a history of Laura Ohio. He told of a Gabriel McCool and Elizabeth Wright from Newberry South carolina. Their grandaughter Susie McCool married Elijah Hunt. Her parents were Thomas And Mary Thompson McCool. These McCools and other settlers founded LAura Ohio. . Elijah and Susanna married 08-19-1821. The history book also says that Elijah's father was Samuel son of Ralph and Rachel Campbel Hunt which .i found out later. Orginally, my cousin Den Hunt said that Christianna Hunt Penny was Elijah's mother and Thomas Penny was his stepfather. I'm sure that is not correct. I decided to google Newberry South carolina because that laura history book said that's where the the McCool and Thompson's and Elijah was from. THEN I found Ralph and Rachel and all their Quaker history and all their children's and grandchildren names including Christianna. I was sooo happy! I don't have ancestry. com, but I have access to it at the Garst museum here in town. The lady at our public library gave me MOCAVO which is a free search engine. The info that you sent me I found on that website. What is unclear to me is that it says some of Ralph's children went to Warren Co., Ohio I think and Ohio Co., Ky, but it doesnt say who. What happened to Samuel? Later in Elijah's life he went to Iowa, but is buried at Old Ludlow here in LAura. It's all a mystery. I wold love to find who Ralph's father is. There is a Ralph Hunt that was one of the founding fathers of NY. I know they were from England. Elijah names his sons Ralph, Abraham, Richard (my 2nd great) Thomas, Issac, Elijah and John. daughters are Rachel Susanna, Mary. All these names are similar to Ralph's childrens names so that why I 'm pretty sure I'm on the right track. Thanks for sending me the info you have, Sue On Thu, May 10, 2012 at 5:48 PM, Vivian <vivm2007@woh.rr.com> wrote: > Sue, It was not the Marsall that had all the excellent references on > Penny that should be a good starting ground for verification but a > "Barefoot" researcher. > Here is a link to her site and Penny is in her maternal line.
