Pacific Standard Time Subj: Black History month Quakers and the Underground Railroad As you know, February is Black History month. Our children and grandchildren will be learning about the Underground Railroad in school. Two of my favorite books for children that include our Quakers are: Allen Jay and the Underground Railroad It is in paperback by First Avenue Editions (I got mine from Barnes and Noble in the past.... probably available on Amazon.) This is based on a true story. Our Allen Jay wrote a biography. I imagine this story came from that. The other I like is one of the Dover Coloring Books, Dover Publications, Mineola, NY. The Story of the Underground Railroad by Peter F. Copeland. There is a separate page to color about Laura Haviland and another about Levi and Catherine Coffin. The children can learn about a lot of other abolitionists and situations involving the underground railroad. Joan Benton

    3. Hi I just wanted to add that a lot of Bush RIver Quakers went to Miami County Ohio. There is a book on the Quaker underground railroad with pictures and family histories of those who participated. Very good book mentioning Motes, Pattys, Jones, Coppock, Pearson and many many others.
