First you have to decide which DNA testing company you want to use!! I've always used FamilyTreeDNA (FTDNA) so that's all I know about. With them, first see if they have a project set up for your surname. If they do, order your kit through the project, and you'll get their best price. If there is not a surname project, you can order a kit anyway, but it will cost more.
