WLTX) - Saturday proved to be one of the worst outbreaks of severe weather in recent years, as tornado warnings and touchdowns were reported all across the Midlands. As of Saturday night, the number of tornadoes reported to the National Weather Service was six. The tornadoes were reported in the following counties: Newberry, Kershaw, Calhoun, Orangeburg, and two in Clarendon. Send Us Your Storm Photos That number could go up. Investigators with the Weather Service will be out Sunday checking damage reports to see if these were indeed tornadoes, and if there were any more. Prosperity. One of the touchdowns was near the Newberry County town of Prosperity. Heavy damage was reported all throughout that area. Preliminary reports from the National Weather Service say that an EF 3 tornado ripped through Severe damage was reported in Kershaw County near Elgin. (Click Here for More on the Kershaw County Destruction) It's unclear if a tornado was responsible for that damage, but that's what officials there believe. Saluda County and Calhoun Counties have had possible tornado activity. The Calhoun County twister brought down trees in the St. Matthews area near Interstate 26. In Aiken County, officials there believe as many as four tornadoes could have touched down. The National Weather Service has not confirmed that count. Hail has been reported across the Midlands. Near Blythewood, there was a report of hail 1.75 inches thick. High winds not associated with the storm also did damage. In Northeast Richland County's Lake Carolina, downed trees caused damage to a number of homes.
