    3. I'm just going to throw this out there for informational purposes. Thomas Gilbert b. abt. 1772 in Newberry Co. was the eldest son of Caleb Gilbert b. 1740 in Bucks Co., PA and married Rebecca Gauntt of Newberry County. The father Caleb was born a Quaker, but did not maintain the faith. His grandfather was a Joseph Gilbert who can first definitively be found in American records on the 1693 Bensalem Twp., Bucks Co., PA tax list. There's no evidence that he was ever a practicing Quaker, but his son Thomas would become one (for awhile at least), and DNA ties these Gilberts to the Quaker John Gilbert who came to Bensalem in the 1680s from Cornwall, England. Bensalem is less than 10 miles from Burlington, NJ across the Delaware River, and I stumbled upon this deed record not long ago: West Jersey, New Jersey Deed Records, 1676 - 1721 John David Davis 10 Feb 1688, Richard Finnimore to Bernard Devonish, 5 pounds. Signed Richard Finnimore. Wit: Thomas Fox & Joseph (X) Gilbert. (Devonish was from the Parish of Great Bartholomew, London, now of Blandford Grove, Twp. of New Salem, Fenwick's Colony.) Bernard Devonish was a Quaker from Burlington based on information I found on the Internet. I don't know if this Joseph Gilbert is "our" Joseph Gilbert, but it certainly could be, and would place him in Burlington, NJ at about the same time the Gauntts were there. Just an FYI.
