I descend from John Wright and Rachel Wells. I do not recall any Mills in the line of Rachel Wells. Bu-u-ut-t-t- t, John's grandson, William (b 1779) married a Mary Mills (b 1780). Both William and Mary were said to have been born in Newberry Co., SC (Bush River Monthly Meeting). There has been some disagreement as to the family line of my Mary Mills as Mills was a common Quaker name. After reading a lot about it, I now have down John Mills (1734-1814) and Elizabeth Edwards (1745-1784) as most likely parents for her but am not completely sure. John Mills supposedly was born in Newberry Co., SC, too. My line runs to son of William Wright and Mary Mills, Nathan (1802-1870), who sired my great-grandfather, Robert Mills Wright (1845-1930). Interesting how he got Mills as his middle name. As for Rachel Wells, wife of John C. Wright, I have her as the only daughter of her mother, also a Rachel, who apparently died not long after her birth. Then her father, Joseph (1697-1758), married Margaret Swanson (1705-1757), and had a great many more children. I too have Joseph Wells being the son of a Thomas and Frances, but they both seem to have spent all their lives in MD. So I don't know if this is the same couple you have???????? Say, did you know it looks like we descend (through the Wells line) from The White Rose (Philippa Gregory)??? (Philippa Gregory writes historical novels. She has a Ph.D. in English history so tries to make everything as accurate as possible.) During the "Cousins War," also known as the "War of the Roses," Elizabeth is wife of the Duke of York. She is the one referred to as the White Rose. (You know as kids we sang, "The grand old duke of York, he had ten thousand men..... he marched them up the hill and marched them down again...... ," etc.) I have my line in the Whitsett tree on Ancestry.com, if you wish to look. Be sure and tell me any errors you find. Over the years I followed the Quaker Roots messages and tried to put what on my tree what seemed most accurate. (per pat Spencer book) Looking for people interested in the Mills' and possibly the Miles family though Harriet has no record of them (miles) my family group sheets mention bush river.
