    3. > This was on my Scotch Irish mail list this morning. I am just sending it along in case someone has an interest in some of the non-Quaker names in the area around Newberry. Marsha > > > Hi folks, is anyone researching a Johnston clan who infest the Chattanooga region of Tennessee? They came there by way of Greene County and before that Newberry, South Carolina. Before, mid 1700s, they were near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. A correspondent of mine is about to publish a book on them. She has an old Bible and other sources that identify their place of origin: Fermanagh, including a copy of the letter John Johnston was given indicating he was a member in good faith of a congregation there . > > Much is in Ancestry in a public family tree. This MIGHT take you to a page that displays info > http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/16983156/person/445495889 . He was a member of Augharluchar Congregation in Jan of 1734. This is John Johnston. John married Mary Dougan (dau Thomas Dougan). They died in Newberry, South Carolina, where their tombstones are still visible. > > HUGE number of surnames in this family tree. > > Anyway, I mention it here because their origin is known: Fermanagh. Probably the Dougans are from nearby. > > This family intermarried with the Colliers repeatedly. > > It's worth checking for your surnames in the tree. If anyone is researching what seems to be this Johnston clan I can connect you with the author. > > Linda Merle >
