Was surprised to see the name Jeremiah Smith mentioned. He was brought to Randolph County,IN as a cjhild and later came into Winchester and became a lawyer. He was responsible (in 1850s) for getting trains thru Randolph Co and also was the founder of Union City, a town on the Ohio State line, partially in Randolph and partially in Darke County, OH. Just this week I was shown a photo of a statue to represent him that was commissioned and paid for by a family friend of mine to be placed in Union City as a memorial to him. I am just starting to do a time-line of his life for local publication for those who do not know his story. Just thought this might interest someone!
