    3. Mary and all: the small books are just what their name implies FREE for downloading from the WEB SITE, not me. Go to the site, click on FREE Books HERE, then go to the GALLERY to find and download copies of the books and pages you want. Incredible, but true. I just sent the notice to our list as it was forwarded to me from another list. Follow the original instructions: >> > This is a commercial site and you need to go to the "Free Small >> > Books" in the middle of the page and click on the "here" to connect >> > to the site. >> > >> > http://www.dmkheritage.com/store/ Have fun! 2. I have not been able to do much research over the last year. My Townsends are still my main concern and I have found a great deal up until William and his brother James were turned away from the Quakers in SC for "going out in a warlike manner". I was able to get his service record in SC during the Rev. War. I would love to get a copy of the small book and even though I have been limited in research I have continued to enjoy the Bushriverquakers information. You have done an incredible job. His committee hopes that, eventually, they can publish information about all the Cemeteries under their care. Last year we had some discussion about SC Quaker Cemeteries and people sent me some basic information about 1. Tyger River Burial Ground 2. Rocky Springs (now called Neel-Harper) 3. Some of the basic info can be found at https://www.quakermeetings.com/Plone/ Please send any other info you might have to me (jrussell2@charter.net) and I'll collate it and send it on the John Allen. The Questions that the NCYM sent me are below. 1) Give location of cemetery on today's current state map, road address, GPS coordinates if possible, provide current photo and/or earlier photo if available. Those cemeteries that the Cemetery Committee has erected permanent markers provide photo of the marker such that the lettering/words are legible. 2) Obtain date the meeting was established as well as the date laid down. If it was a Preparative Meeting, provide name of Monthly Meeting that it was under the care of, where memberships are recorded. 3) Determine ownership of the physical property, NCYM or private, and availability of access. Advise if the "Quaker" cemetery has merged with another cemetery. Record the date and situation if merged. 4) List the Cemetery data; size in acres, approximate number of graves, describe condition of grave markers, condition of cemetery, whether the cemetery is enclosed, if it is maintained and by whom, whether it is overgrown, wooded, has periwinkle ground covering, severity of depressions of the graves, or if there is no maintenance. 5) Record Known Quaker families, usually not many. If a cemetery survey has been done, record when, by whom, and the location of a copy of the survey. 6) Interviews can be done of Family descendants, local Meeting / Quarter historian, local genealogy societies, local libraries, and/or freelance writers. 3. Was surprised to see the name Jeremiah Smith mentioned. He was brought to Randolph County,IN as a cjhild and later came into Winchester and became a lawyer. He was responsible (in 1850s) for getting trains thru Randolph Co and also was the founder of Union City, a town on the Ohio State line, partially in Randolph and partially in Darke County, OH. Just this week I was shown a photo of a statue to represent him that was commissioned and paid for by a family friend of mine to be placed in Union City as a memorial to him. I am just starting to do a time-line of his life for local publication for those who do not know his story. Just thought this might interest someone! 3. Slightly on a different note, does anyone on this list know the location of the old PARKINS Family Cemetery? We lived in Newberry in the early 1970s, but I did not know that I had several lines who came there from VA along with some of the earliest families! How I wish I had known! Daniel PARKINS, who is written about in the old book on Newberry County, was Quaker, and he is buried in this old cemetery along with his wife, at least two sons, and probably quite a few others. Daniel died just a few days after first, one son, then a second son and his wife had died. I am not certain of the dates at present, but I know that Daniel came from Winchester, VA, in the mid-1700s. He was a well-respected man. The cemetery was located abt 3-7 miles from Prosperity as I remember reading a while back. It seems that it was southwest of Prosperity. Thank you for any help. If I can find any clues as to it's location, I would like to try to visit it. I live in Myrtle Beach but go home to the Upstate sometimes and pass right by the exits to Prosperity and Newberry. It would be wonderful to locate it. Thank you for any help! Dolores Miller Pringle

Blair Werts (b-11/13/1842, d-5/24/1911) This John J. Blair’s father was James Blair (b-abt 1744, d-7/13/1816, bur-Kings Creek ARP Church Cemetery, Newberry). This John J. Blair had siblings named: Mary, Martha, Margaret, William, James, and George. There is still a little debate on John’s father’s connections, but either his brother or father was named William Blair (d-abt 1814 In Newberry County, SC). This William is my direct ancestor and is the oldest known ancestor I currently have. We believe that this William came to America from Ireland in about 1785. He was here in 1786 because he bought land in 1786 in Newberry District. We believe, but can’t prove yet that he came via ship from Larne Ireland. Very Likely James came with him or shortly thereafter. William’s son is named David. And David had two sons named William and John J. Blair. So my direct ancestor John J Blair (b-3/1800) had a cousin that was in Newberry that was 3 months older than he, that was also named John J. Blair. So basically, all of the Blair’s in Newberry in the early 1800’s are related closely and I know most of the connections. But across the river in Fairfield County there are 2 or 3 distinct lines of Blair’s that have not been able to be tied together, or directly tied to the Newberry Blair’s. We have all participated in the Blair DNA project and we know that the Fairfield Blair’s and the Newberry Blair’s are linked, but we just don’t know how yet. From what I can tell, I believe that the link will be found about 2 or 3 generations earlier in Ireland. >From all of the research we have done, the John J. Blair in the Quaker >Cemetery is the only Quaker we have found in the Blair family. And I am >only assuming that he was a Quaker because he (and at least one son) is >buried in the cemetery. I am assuming (and again remember what assuming >gets you) that this John made a split from the rest of the family and it >likely was over slavery. This John’s father had a plantation in Newberry, >and several of the Blair’s were slave owners. Most of the early Newberry >Blair’s were Presbyterian’s. My father and I wrote a book on our Blair ancestors, called SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF THE BLAIRS. Much of this info is included in the book, if anyone is interested. I know that we are not supposed to use this list server to sell things, but if anyone is interested in more info on the book, please send me your email and I’ll get you more info off this list. I hope I’m not breaking any rules by mentioning it here. But I hope this will clear up some of the confusion. Maybe I just created some more. At any rate, I’m glad to share what info I have.
