Hi, I will try, but this is a rather big cemetery and leaves may have fallen and cover some of the small markers. Also, I can't find my copy of the map. Can you email a copy. Needs to have the entrance shown and please mark where you think plot 6 would be. I will wait one more day before going there, so get to me asap. Will of Jacob Brooks, SC Will Book TT 1774-1778, p. 54: Jacob Brooks, his mark, Craven County, planter. Wife: Rosana, use of my plantation where I now live during her life. Children: Jacob, John and William Garry [sic: Gary]. Grandsons: Stephen and Roger Brooks, sons of my son John. Granddau: Sarah Garry, dau. of Milly Garry. Mentions: son William Garry's wife Milly Garry. Exors: wife; son Jacob. Wit: James H. Casey; Henry Steeddom; William Legg, his mark. Dated: 17 Sep 1770. Proven: nd. Jacob Brooks petitioned for 550 acres of land on 1 Mar 1757, so he had 10 dependents (including servants and/or slaves) in his household at that time. Benjamin Pearson petitioned for 350 acres on 5 Feb 1759, so he had 6 dependents. His land was laid out adjacent to the Jacob Brooks tract. Jacob Brooks apparently did not mention each child and grandchild in his will, but evidence is slim re who those other dependents may have been in 1757, and which (if any) of his children lived in separate households by then. The SC records of Rev War soldiers (on the Whig side) include many men named Pearson, Person, Pierson, etc., but none of those was named Jacob. Our group has, undoubtedly, the best researchers to be found on the South Carolina Quaker families. It is unfortunate that we all, for the most part, live so far away. That's what I meant about commitment in my message earlier. Not that folks don't want to participate, but time and distance works against us. My Townsend family keeps me interested in the SC area. It is funny that my daughter attended Ferman U. which was sooo close to the area the Townsends called home for a number of years. I am confused..... I have Rachel Well's half-sister as living only a year, b. 1724 and d 1725. Rachel did have a daughter named Charity, b 1745 who was a rather famous Quaker minister who went back to Europe to preach/teach, but she married Isaac Cooke. Has anyone researched this family and would be willing to share. Did he marry twice? I just found out that Rachel Wells descends from Thomas Wells and Francis (not verified surname) and my Ashe Co NC also descends from Thomas Wells and Francis. Rachels Wells sister Charity married Joseph Wright. Their brother, Joseph married Charity Carrington and their son Joseph Wells married Margaret Dicks/Dix, daughter of Zachariah Dix the prophet that laid the seeds for the great migration out of Bush River. This family is really getting interesting! They go back to Hopewell MM. Wrights are a big group and I would appreciate any help I can get. I am hoping to find more connections between my Blevins/Ward/Wells and other Bush River people that came to Miami Co Ohio. Other families that ties into this group is the Marshalls and Pughs (my line, so ok there). I descend from John Wright and Rachel Wells. I do not recall any Mills in the line of Rachel Wells. Bu-u-ut-t-t- t, John's grandson, William (b 1779) married a Mary Mills (b 1780). Both William and Mary were said to have been born in Newberry Co., SC (Bush River Monthly Meeting). There has been some disagreement as to the family line of my Mary Mills as Mills was a common Quaker name. After reading a lot about it, I now have down John Mills (1734-1814) and Elizabeth Edwards (1745-1784) as most likely parents for her but am not completely sure. John Mills supposedly was born in Newberry Co., SC, too. My line runs to son of William Wright and Mary Mills, Nathan (1802-1870), who sired my great-grandfather, Robert Mills Wright (1845-1930). Interesting how he got Mills as his middle name. As for Rachel Wells, wife of John C. Wright, I have her as the only daughter of her mother, also a Rachel, who apparently died not long after her birth. Then her father, Joseph (1697-1758), married Margaret Swanson (1705-1757), and had a great many more children. I too have Joseph Wells being the son of a Thomas and Frances, but they both seem to have spent all their lives in MD. So I don't know if this is the same couple you have???????? Say, did you know it looks like we descend (through the Wells line) from The White Rose (Philippa Gregory)??? (Philippa Gregory writes historical novels. She has a Ph.D. in English history so tries to make everything as accurate as possible.) During the "Cousins War," also known as the "War of the Roses," Elizabeth is wife of the Duke of York. She is the one referred to as the White Rose. (You know as kids we sang, "The grand old duke of York, he had ten thousand men..... he marched them up the hill and marched them down again...... ," etc.) I have my line in the Whitsett tree on Ancestry.com, if you wish to look. Be sure and tell me any errors you find. Over the years I followed the Quaker Roots messages and tried to put what on my tree what seemed most accurate. Hello Vivian, I also descend from Rachel Wells and John Wright and am interested in corresponding with you. Right now I am very busy catching up after a month!! away from home. Monisa, does the sketch you have mention very much about Mary Wright daughter of James Wright and Mary Davis Wright ? Lydia married Josiah Ballinger. James and Mary Wright were the grandparents of Mary Ballinger who married Jacob Embree .( my line). I plan to put it all on the Ancestry.com site eventually so everyone can have access to my info and also so my research won't die with me.
