Ann's message via Judy is of great interest to me....I hope to be able to attend. I made a very quick look at a couple of websites to get a feeling for the Eno MM....here are some of the names associated: While we are discussing North Carolina Quaker cemeteries... Can anyone speak to the current ownership of the "Old Eno Burial Ground" north of Hillsborough, Orange County, North Carolina as well as the current ownership of the access to the cemetery? The cemetery and an adjacent school house were in use by the Quakers who were among the earliest settlers of Hillsborough, one of the oldest inland settlements in the state. A survey and evaluation of the cemetery was made a few years ago by a committee of the nearby Chapel Hill Friends Meeting (see http://cemeterycensus.com/nc/orng/cem064.htm). The original Quakers are said to have largely left the area at about the time of the Regulator Rebellion (James Few was one of the Quaker family members hung as a Regulator, and many Quakers subsequently moved on to Georgia to avoid the hostilities), and the minutes of the early meeting in Hillsborough were lost. However, the grave markers indicate burials well into the 1800s. Surnames would include Burnside/Burnsides, Cates, Chambers, Comb, Cole, Dixon, Ellis, Faucette/Fosset, Few, Freeland, Irvyd/Ervin, Jackson, Jordan, Miller, Marris/Maris, McCracken, Miller, Palmer, Parish, Thompson, Wilkinson, Wood & Woodward. I know some of these families to have come from New Garden Meeting in Chester County, Pennsylvania. Jeff Palmer - jap@highstream.net What I am interested in is if any of these families listed in the above moved to Newberry rather than to Wrightsboro? I know that Nehemiah and Abigail Thomas were among the couples who moved from Orange County, NC to Newberry---probably just before the regulator movement. I descend from Abigail's niece Sarah Moore McKinsey who lived very close to our Bush River MM cemetery. Anyone on the list recognize any of these families? marsha moses > > Dedication Ceremony > > Memorial Marker at the site of Eno Quaker Meeting And burial ground > >
I am researching my husbands family line for our daughter and I recently discovered that his 5xgreat grandfather was Uriah Cook, originally from Bush River. I have a lot of information of his later life but I am looking for more information about his parents (Joseph Cook and Mary Herbert) and further back on the line. I am looking through the archives and I see mention of the cook line often, so I am trying to read through what I can. I am new to the Quaker records so reading them is still a little confusing for me. If you have any information to share, it would be greatly appreciated! Last Tuesday, 28 Feb 2012, my neighbor Ann Reynolds and I traveled to Sedalia SC to meet with surveyor Ralph Smith and Union County resident and Padgett's Creek friend Jack Burnett, Jr., for the survey of the Padgett's Creek Cemetery. The surveyor marked and mapped and we photographed approximately 75 marked gravestones, boulders, and sink holes in the one acre plot. We are now waiting for the surveyor's plat map and database (plus invoice!) to be delivered to me so that I can match last week's photos with the map. I will also be able to compare the sets of older photos that I have so that we can possible see any changes that have occurred. We believe, for instance, that two Gist markers, located outside the brick Gist enclosure have been removed to nearby historic Rose Hill Plantation for safe keeping. If you have old photos that you can scan and send, it would be good to have them so that we can observe changes through time. We were lucky with the weather and were very happy to meet Ralph Smith and Jack Burnett. We also visited the Union County Museum and met Director Ola Jean Kelly; there is a wonderful collection there of Union County artifacts and furniture as well as an historical library and family history collection. With everyone's help, I will be updating the 2010 Padgett's Creek report for sharing soon. As always, I welcome your comments, questions, and support. **Remember, please,** if you want to reply to me personally, direct your email to jrussell2@charter.net If you just hit "reply," your comments will probably (depending on your email software settings) go to the entire list. The enhanced ancestral chart is what you would use to help seniors record their basic family info back to their great grandparents and the 1930 census. Does anyone have any ideas on where Samuel Campbell, who died between 1772 and 1775, might be buried. The info that I have is that he died in Union County. It is possible that he was not a Quaker though evidence is that his widow, Mary Campbell, was. She married Thomas Pearson in Nov. 1775 at Padgett's Creek, Union County after Samuel's death. Two of my favorite books for children that include our Quakers are: Allen Jay and the Underground Railroad It is in paperback by First Avenue Editions (I got mine from Barnes and Noble in the past.... probably available on Amazon.) This is based on a true story. Our Allen Jay wrote a biography. I imagine this story came from that. The other I like is one of the Dover Coloring Books, Dover Publications, Mineola, NY. The Story of the Underground Railroad by Peter F. Copeland. There is a separate page to color about Laura Haviland and another about Levi and Catherine Coffin. The children can learn about a lot of other abolitionists and situations involving the underground railroad. Joan Benton

I'm writing to remind you of our free materials that would be fun and useful for your family reunions that might be scheduled this summer, the program called "Ask Granny." My friend and I have developed this series of free emailed pdf files which can be used to collect and record irreplaceable family memories of any senior citizens you might know. The enhanced ancestral chart is what you would use to help seniors record their basic family info back to their great grandparents and the 1930 census. The files are designed to be used, mix and match, for many situations. They can be made into posters, slides, and handouts. There are teaching aids as well as a file to help teach children how to interview their Grannies and Grandpas. We've sent the files all over the world and have lots of good feedback from individuals and Genealogical Societies as far away as Australia. More info is at: https://sites.google.com/site/askgranny2010/ Please let me know if you have questions or if you'd like me to send you the files for your reunion or other family history/senior citizen activities.
