    1. Re: [SC-BUSHRIVERQUAKERS] Pugh Family in Bush River

    3. I can give a little insight into the Pugh's. I did not see them listed at Eno Cemetery so if you could post exactly who is there I might have more. nThis is what I have so far on Pugh. Azariah Pugh is definitely Bush River MM and Hopewell MM before that. Son of Thomas Pugh/Jane Robert_Rogers> son of Ellis and Sinah Evan. As far as I know they have not found a male for DNA testing. Azariah married Hannah Beals daughter of there are different theories on this. Their daughter Ruth Pugh married Peter Julien Jr. both died Bush River. I descend from son Elijah married Rhoda Coppock. Other familes that they married were Baskin, Tanzy, Chapman, Gray, Wrights and Minton. Peter Julien Jr and Ruth Pugh had a daughter Ruth Julien 1763, Guilford and they lived in Orange Co NC but I do not think they ever joined Cane Creek MM. Julien's were not early Quakers but married in. She is a sister to my Elihu/Rhoda Coppock. Ruth was the eldest and she married Elijah Stewart Pugh and they died in Grove Hill, Alabama. Elijah Stewart Pughs parents were Jesse Pugh and Elizabeth Stewart of Orange Co NC. Some of their children married the Baskin and Chapman above. This Jesse Pugh is the son of Thomas Pugh and Elizabeth Richardson>James Pugh and Joan Price. This line has been DNA tested but we still do not know if the two lines are related by blood. If anyone can shed more light on this group, I would love to hear from you. Here is an interesting website that you have to just browse but he does have some early land records of people that I think came on to Bush River like Wright and McDaniel and others. It has been a year since I found this site, so I am not sure just were I found it. If I have some time, I will see if I kind find it again but browsing if any of you have time might find your family that would not be obvious to me. I know there is a Valentine Hollingsworth there. I think he may have a book. His is a fairly young man, Mark Chilton and the mayor of Carrboro. http://piedmontwanderings.blogspot.com/

    3. I just sent Eleanor a bit of information from my slideshow that we worked on last time our group was together in Newberry. This information had a small bit of information about the Pugh family. It seems from what I had collected that the Pugh family were first in Old Chester County....then Hopewell MM....and then I next have them in Newberry area....is there a chance that this is the same Pugh family that was affiliated with Eno Cemetery? And that they made a stop in Orange County, NC before moving to Bush River? Anyone have information to help both Eleanor and me? I would like to add them to my Blog if we have some proof of their being the same Pugh family members. Eleanor, I can't send the attachments that I sent you to the entire list because rootsweb doesn't accept attachments.....if you have a few minutes today, would you please .....hmmm....perhaps I can copy and paste some of the information....let me try that. marsha moses On Apr 25, 2012, at 1:29 PM, Eleanor W. 3. An old note from a researcher that may pertain. I need information on George Mack arrived in Philadelphia Septr. 23, 1732 aboard The Adventure from Rotterdam. He is found on the Lunenburg Co., VA tax lists of 1747 & 1752 in the household of Jeremiah Claunch/Clonch/Glantz.Also aboard The Adventure was Hieronymus Glantz/Jeremiah Claunch as they were both Palatine passengers. On Feb.. 15, 1733 Hieronymus Glantz m Barbara Mack who was probably a relative. I don' t know if he was her father, brother, uncle or whatnot but it seems there would be some connection by having the same names.

    3. I was looking for a copy of the book and I can't believe the cheapest one I can find is $312.00. That is just crazy! It is so expensive that it is difficult for the vast majority of people to be able to enjoy and share. I figured what the heck! I started a petition to the publisher to ask for them to reprint it. You never know it might work? It's worth a shot. If you are interested or know someone who may be, here is the link to the petition. 1. [SC-BUSHRIVERQUAKERS] Trying to sort out Tyger Creek SC references.
    2. Judith F. Russell
    3. I've been trying to sort out some references as to "burial at Tyger River Burial Grounds" in both the Bush River and Cane Creek SC Meeting notes, as per Hinshaw. From these notes from Medlin and William, below, I'm not sure I can say anything definitive. Your thoughts and input are appreciated. *********************************** Medlin's Quakers in South Carolina Friends Meetings in South Carolina 1675 - 1981 pp 35 -36 BUSH RIVER: Largest Meeting in South Carolina, with its own Monthly Meeting from 1770 until 1822, and its own Quarterly Meeting for a much briefer time. Meetings for Worship were still held here with some regularity until around 1856. CANE CREEK: Also called Tyger River. Located near Cane Creek in Union County. Had its own Monthly Meeting from 1789 until about 1808, with jurisdiction over Friends in Union, Spartanburg, Chester, and York Counties. (The Meeting for Worship was established in 1775, under Bush River MM originally.) Most of the members of the Meeting moved to Miami, Ohio, and established Caesar's Creek MM there, continuing to use the same Minute Book from SC. LOWER MEETING: The minutes of Cane Creek Monthly Meeting in 1801 mention the appointment of an overseer for "the Lower Meeting of Padget's Creek. [sic, quote is unclosed] The existence of two graveyards for Friends on this creek would seem to indicate that this was a separate meeting for worship, rather than a designation of Padget's Creek of being "lower" geographically or organizationally than Cane Creek. PADGET'S CREEK: Also know as Tyger River, this Meeting was established in 1774 under Bush River Monthly Meeting and after 1789 reported to Cane Creek. Worship probably continued here after 1820. It was located in Union County near Sedalia, and at some point before 1801 was divided into two meetings for worship. (See LOWER) Members here moved in large numbers to Miami, Ohio, to form the Caesar's Creek Monthly Meeting there in the early 1800's [sic], and the remaining members were transferred on paper to New Garden Monthly Meeting in North Carolina in 1809. ************* And here is a passage shared by Thomas Hamm: ..........from the Journal of the Life, Travels, and Gospel Labours of William Williams (1828) may be helpful. They are for 9th Mo. 1804, traveling in South Carolina. 9-16: At Bush River 9-17: "Had a meeting at the Rocky Spring, wherein I was enabled to labour to the peace of my mind. Lodged again with our aforesaid friend [Enoch Pearson], who was our pilot and feeling companion to Tiger River, next day." 9-19: "Had a meeting at the lower meeting house on Paget's Creek." "The three following days we attended, in succession, Cane Creek Preparative Meeting, the upper meeting on Paget's Creek, and the Cane Creek Monthly Meeting."

    3. You need to read the instructions below for proper removal. Since you didn't put the word unsubscribe in the subject line and in the body of the message, you will probably continue to be on the list. Note also that you do not send it to this address, but to the one indicated below. BTW all of my ancestors are Lutheran, but I still enjoy reading and working with the Bushriverquakers.
