    1. Re: [SC-BUSHRIVERQUAKERS] Benjamin Inman, died 1774
    2. Steve Pearson
    3. Kay, can you send me your sources for the other remaining children for Benjamin? I've seen a list, but have seen it be confused with Benajmin Jr's children from a Bible record. I have no doubt there were other children other than Benjamin Jr and Jehu but have not included what I've seen due to the confusion. ( Either on my part or others ). You can e-mail me at [email protected] if you'd rather. Below is a small section of notes from my database regarding the children of Benjamin Sr. vs. Jr. Thanks. Steve __________________________________________________________ Information on Benjamin taken from the records of Jim and Jean Davis of Assumption, Illinois. The information was copied from an old family bible which was last in the possession of Aletha Inman Davis. Jim's grandmother. Also from the records of Ruth May, Montgomery, Illinois. From: Record-The Inmans and those related. Property of I.I. Inman 304 Oakland Ave., Janesville, Wis. (Ledger is undated but contains Inman entries as early as 1846) " My Ancestors were Edward Inman Born in Wales about 1700 settled in London, England had a family of 5 sons and 2 daughtors. The 2 daughters died in early life. Henry Inman Eldest son Joined The English navy at 18 years of age. died in The English Navy as Captain of Ship sunke in Battle 1799. John Inman second son served as a Soldier 5 years. Benjamin 3d son, Jahuh 4 Son, and Joshuay 5. Emmegrated to in America 1760 after 8 months voyage. landed in Charbotou? Harber S.C. Settled Newberry S.C. Benjamin Inman had a family of 9 children,8 sons, Ahab, Arthur, Benjamin, Jehuh, Frareth, Chas, George and William and Elizabeth. Jauhu Inman had a family of 10 children 1802 Joshuay Inman had a family of 8 children 1814. George Inman was my Grand father. he Emigrated from Newberry, S.C. to Pleasanthill, Ohio in 1818 had a family of 6 children, Henry, George, Benjamin, Sarah, Anna and Susan." Note here on the date of Edward's birth. I believe it to be quite off as he would have to have been born sometime at least 18 years or so before his son Benjamin, whom we believe was born 1699. I also believe that the author of the above history stated the family of Benjamin Jr. as opposed to Benjamin Sr. The children listed for Benjamin's 8 sons, Ahab, Arthur, Benjamin, Jehuh, Frareth, Chas, George and William and Elizabeth. Are proven to have been the exact names of the children of Benjamin Jr and Elizabeth Inman stated in the will of Benjamin Jr. See below under notes for Benjamin Jr. Therefore I have come to the conclusion that the children of Benjamin Sr. and Jemime are not stated in the brief history above. _____________________________________________________________ ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, June 02, 2008 11:12 PM Subject: Re: [SC-BUSHRIVERQUAKERS] Benjamin Inman, died 1774 > Hi Tom, I'm another cousin in California. 1. [SC-BUSHRIVERQUAKERS] Benjamin Inman, died 1774
    2. I am interested in Benjamin Inman, whose death 7th Mo. 2, 1774, aged 75 years, is recorded in the Bush River records. It has been suggested that he was the father of Alice/Alsie/Elsie, wife of Edward Freeman Snellgrove who was in Newberry County in the 1780s but died in Edgefield District, SC, in 1802. Can anyone confirm or disprove this? Edward and Alice Snellgrove named their apparent oldest son Benjamin.

    3. I have added a photo of the grave of Nehemiah Thomas of Bush River to my photos of the Bush River Homecoming 2008. This excellent photo was taken for me by Nancy Magnuson. I believe that this Nehemiah was the uncle or brother of my Sarah Thomas McKinsey, and is the man who left a will naming several nieces and nephews. Nehemiah and his wife, Abigail Moore Thomas were most likely childless since no children are named in the will. Sarah's son, Nehemiah McKinsey is one of the legatees. http://picasaweb.google.com/marshamoses47/BushRiverHomecoming2008 These photos should be available to download onto your own computer ....feel free to help yourself to anything that you would want. 1. [SC-BUSHRIVERQUAKERS] Germanna Thomas line
    2. marsha moses
    3. Nancy and I were talking about whether we could find a connection between our Thomas lines at the Homecoming. I sent this to the Thomas mail list this morning and decided to share it here as well so that Nancy would see it. Since there were MANY Germans in the Bush River area, it is possible that some of them could have been Germanna. Unrelated to the Germanna Thomas lines: I found the page while unpacking that I had copied several years ago while visiting the Newberry library. Unfortunately the title page must have become disconnected from the copied pages. But my notes indicate that the title of the book may have been a List of Quaker families in SC and Georgia....and there were SEVERAL Thomas Quaker families! One major Thomas family connection is the Tristram Thomas family that came into Maryland instead of Pennsylvania. A descendent of the Tristram's was Stephen who is said to have been the progenitor of the Thomas family in SC. I do not expect this to be my Thomas family. I think that my Sarah Thomas McKinsey is more likely to be connected to the Thomas family that first arrives in PA....moves south to Hopewell MM....and into the Carolinas by the mid 1700's. But I thought that Marilyn's e-mail was interesting enough to send on.....here is what I sent to the Thomas mail list: > Marilyn sent this to the Germanna list this morning. 1. [SC-BUSHRIVERQUAKERS] Plat maps for Bush River settlement
    2. Harriet Imrey
    3. A plat map called "The Dutch Fork of Newberry District S.C.", by Dr. Carl W. Nichols, is available from the Chapter Publications list at www.dutchforkchapter.org. The Bush River is the western boundary of the portion covered, so it excludes the Quaker families who lived between Bush River and Little River to the west. The site of the meetinghouse/cemtery is marked at the far southwestern end of the map, so you can see where many of the settlers lived in relation to it. One useful addition is that Dr. Nichols identified the current roads (including tiny county roads), which makes it possible to pinpoint locations. If your families lived on the west side of Bush River or on Beaverdam Creek (there were 3 of those very near one another), you're more likely to find their locations in Jesse Hogan Motes III and Margaret Peckham Motes, Laurens and Newberry Counties South Carolina: Saluda and Little River Settlements 1749-1775 (Greenville Co SC: Southern Historical Press, 1994). The book includes document abstracts showing the chain-of-title for many properties in the region. It does not cover east of the Bush River. You'd want to know where people lived before deciding if you wanted to order a map for east-of-Bush-River or the plats and documents for west-of-Bush-River. To find out, go to www.archivesindex.sc.gov. A search there will take you to printable copies of the colonial plats (through ~1775) and of the county wills (1782-~1852). Not every will was recorded and transcribed, but most of them were. ----- Original Message ----- From: "marsha moses" <[email protected]> To: "bush river mail list" <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, May 25, 2008 10:34 AM Subject: [SC-BUSHRIVERQUAKERS] Bush River/Dutch Fork One of the things that I found a couple of spare minutes to do while attending the Bush River Homecoming 2008 this past weekend was to look at a book in the Newberry Library. It looks as if John and Rachel Wells Wright move to Newberry VERY early with children already born: William, Mary, Joseph, Margaret, Charity, Rachel, John, No wait...the 1749 move to SC must be a stretch as the following children born in Orange County, NC: Sarah, Hannah, James, Susannah and children of unknown place of birth: Elizabeth and Nathan and children born in Newberry: Keziah and Isaac. Interestingly enough in Nehemiah Thomas's Will he names as a legatee, nephew Edward Thomas, son of Edward Thomas of North Carolina. The only Edward Thomas that I have found in NC is living in Orange County, NC....I do believe that there was a great deal of back and forth between Newberry and Orange, Guilford, Old Rowan County, NC..... Look down below for one more comment: Geneology York wrote: > Christopher DUNCAN >. +Elizabeth HILLBURN m: February 15, 1786 VA; Fauquier CO? notes illegible >or Hilburn > > > I'll try to look at Fauquier County for a marriage....or for information that some of these Quakers moved here before starting south to the Carolinas. Fauquier County seems to adjoin Louden which would line up with the information from the speaker at the Virginia Genealogical Society's Spring event about the French and Indian War: that the Quakers at Hopewell MM moved to Louden to escape the Indian depredations while the Germans moved to Frederick County, MD....I hope that I understood him correctly....I think that he meant Louden County--not the fort named Louden. Mordecai McKinsey who is said to be 66 in the 1850 census married Katherine Reagan. One of my good buddies, Roberta, found a deposition that absolutely connects Reason and Katherine. 1. [SC-BUSHRIVERQUAKERS] Joseph Thompson, Sr.'s will
    2. marsha moses
    3. The one big question that I keep asking myself in the will of Joseph Thompson, Sr. dated 1814 and recorded 1815 is who is his granddaughter, Sarah Mills formerly Sarah McKenzie? It seems that Joseph Thompson has moved to Miami County, Ohio. Hi has son Richard Thompson and son Joseph Thompson who preceded him in death. He has daughter Mary Jenkins married to Wm Jenkins and daughter Jane Hilburn married to Levi Hilburn But this Sarah McKenzie Mills has me stumped. It is not MY Sarah Thomas McKinsey married to a second husband because she dies before this date. Her daughter, Sarah McKinsey is said to have married (Ruby Mundell Barry's book) Benjamin Spray. This Sarah is already married in 1813, so she was born in late 1700's....so she is likely to have been either of the generation of my Sarah Thomas McKinsey or that of her children....just don't know who this Sarah is....Anyone know more about the Thompsons? marsha moses
