That sound like fun! I did not get to go to this one in Bush River. Two years ago, I got to go down for a Stewart research trip so I have been there at least once. I really hope they have another one. I think that we might be able to get some help with this for our region. My sister and I went to the Quaker Conference in Wilmington two years ago (that is a yearly event now) and we had a marvelous time. That is where I met Donne Hayden who wrote the book. I would think that one of the churches would allow us to use their facilities or perhaps Wilmington College or Earlham College. I have to think that they might have a way of helping us find Bush River descendents. Sixty five families settled here and/or migrated through after they left Bush River. I am sure we could at least get some sort of announcement. Vivian
Hi Joan, I am going to post this to the list as I know sometimes I personally am interested in the line even though it is not me asking questions. I can tell you that Nathan Wright and Abigail Coppock married in Miami County Ohio in 1829 for a start. I had Abigail in my database but not her husband just because it was not my direct line and the Coppocks were plentiful, but I know it helps to sort them all out in the end. I do have John C Coppock and Abigail Skillern in my data with nine children. I have him as the son of John Coppock 1709 Chester Pa and Margaret Coulson. I have six children for him with your John b 1731 being the eldest and Joseph b 1742 who married Jane Wilson as the youngest. I descend from Joseph/Jane's granddaughter Rhoda who married Elijah Julian, so Hi Cousin! It seems logical that your Abigail would have to be a daughter of one of the Coppock's in the 1830 Miami Co Ohio Census since she married here in 1829. This alone should keep us busy as there were 17 Coppock men as head of household in that census and one woman! There are only 10 families in 1820 and it is spelled Coppick. Do you have a death record or anything that gives her parents? The Irish Quakers in Newberry came from Maryland and Pennsylvania, most of them. Several are buried at the Reagin Cemetery, not too far from the Bush River Quaker Cem. Hi, that's very kind of you. My families names were Inman, Coppock and a lot of others, my mother was an Inman and they intermarried so often with the Coppock's I get dizzy when looking them up. My gr grandmother was a Martindale, her husb and was Leavell but the Martindales first went to Pennsylvania. It's great to see all this action on the names that are familiar to me. Well, they are all familiar but related to me would be putting it clearer. I'm in Calif. and wanted to go but SC but just couldn't get away. but if you have a mine one I'd love to go. Or Indiana. I'm looking for an Isaac Thomas who first shows up in Christian Co. KY around 1812 among my family group (Williamses and others) who came from Newberry. I don't know that he was part of the circle when they lived in SC, and don't know that any of them were Quakers. They were mostly affiliated with the Bush River Baptist church and left SC for KY and then IN around the same time your Quakers were leaving. -------------- Original message -------------- From: [email protected] > Although I do not have specific family connections, I suspect that I am kin to > Abel Thomas, a Quaker minister who visited along the wagon road and into the > Carolinas during Revolutionary War times.  He had an authorization from General > Nathaniel Greene, and I suspect that he may have had relatives down there > somewhere, as well as being on a mission from God. Although I do not have specific family connections, I suspect that I am kin to Abel Thomas, a Quaker minister who visited along the wagon road and into the Carolinas during Revolutionary War times. He had an authorization from General Nathaniel Greene, and I suspect that he may have had relatives down there somewhere, as well as being on a mission from God. I have a copy of the Abel Thomas memoir that has been passed down to me that recounts some of his travels. Hello Bush River Friends: A consensus seems to be developing for scheduling a 2nd Bush River Homecoming in the summer of 2010, rather than 2011. As I surveyed the committee chairmen for this year's Reunion, especially, they all were very enthusiastic about getting another Homecoming on the calendar. Ann Crowley and I are in favor, also. I personally think that our weekend in Newberry was absolutely fabulous because of the wonderful people that I met and our Wagon Road adventure. I very much look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones in 2010. So.......let's get thinking about this! Our feedback from this spring's meeting suggests that people would like to have time for small groups to talk about and exchange info on specific families. I think we might want to spend some group time at the new Newberry library so that we could learn about the facilities and research there. What else do you suggest? Please let us know your thoughts! Give us your wish list! Soon I'll probably be able to have some committees for which you might be interested in volunteering. But, if you want to volunteer right now, let me know that, too. Best wishes, Judy Russell
ha! no, I just found it while looking for references to Horn's Creek Baptist Church in Edgefield. It is, however, a 2006 book. It states that the SC Quakers have not been given good reporting and it attempts to fill the void. JudyR ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: "Judith F. On 1st day 4th month 1765, Hopewell MM issued a certificate of removal for "Wm. O'Neal, wife, & ch., Abijah and Sarah" to Wateree meeting, the one in Camden SC that was also called Fredericksburgh meeting (for the township, rather than for the Wateree River on which it was located). William O'Neal changed his mind about the location as soon as he arrived in SC, petitioned on 7 Oct 1766 for land on the Saluda River. It was located on Mudlick Creek west of the Little River, technically on the Laurens Co side of the later border, but part of the Bush River Quaker community. ----- Original Message ----- From: "jane gilbert" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, July 29, 2008 2:23 PM Subject: [SC-BUSHRIVERQUAKERS] From Hopewell to Bush River Hi everyone, I had time to kill in Northern Virginia yesterday and spent a couple of hours at the main Fairfax County library. I'm glad it was of help, John. I saw other familiar names while looking at deed records in the county. Reason Reagin popped up who was the patriarch of the Bush River Reagin line as I understand it, and I also saw an Edmundson who may be from my Chester Co., PA line. I haven't chased him down yet. I also saw reference to a John Thomas and wondered if the Thomas family from Newberry wasn't from Hopewell also.
