    1. JOhn Sawyer and Thomas Sawyer
    2. Below is some of my research. Also if anyone is descended from the Bermuda John Sawyer - Shannonhouse......In the book, House of Shannon by Edna Shannonhouse she states Elisha probably died young but I have found an Elisa Sawyer in Charleston, S. C. and Married to Ann Blake and also there is a will on file for him. If anyone is interested I will look up the references. Wills From: the oldest will book in Albermarle #431 John (X) Sawyer, planter 22 Dec 1713 (no probate) of Albermarle Co. Son John Sawyer 100 acres where he now lives, Son Thomas 100 acres, Son Robert - 100 acres where he now lives. Son Solomon - his choice on the land up the river left out of the other 400 acres; a mare in Boney Woods. Grandson Charles Grandy - the remaining 100 acres. Son John's eldest daughter - heifer. Son Thomas' wife - heifer. Wife Jean Sawyer - household goods. Other legacies. Exec. wife Wit: Thomas X Sawyer, Robert X sawyer, Timothy Reading I have looked at the N. C. archives for probation of John's will. Could anyone on the list please tell me how to go about finding the probation of old John's will or estate records if not on file at the archives. The date of Dec. 22 is when the will was written but it is not impossible that he wrote the will and died on the same day. If I am not mistaken just a little later than Dec. 1713 we see a JOhn Sawyer Sr. and Jr...being fined 5L for not going to "INdian warr" and two others and this according to court records went on for several months.(I will copy that to the list if anyone is interested) People have mistakenly tacked Reading on, making John's wife Jean Reading but I have not found any proof of this. (Found one ref. and there are others - Held in Chowan co 19th of Aug 1713...Upon complaint made by Daniel Guthree, Deputy Marshall for the precinct of Pasquotanke that Robert Morgan, John Sawyer Sr. John Sawyer Jr., Edward Williams, Richard Hastings and Robert Sawyer did utterly refuse to pay the fine of 5 pounds for bot goeing out in the Indyan Warr............. It would really be nice if we could get these very early Sawyers straightened out. They all lived with land touching at one time or the other but there is not a clear connection as yet, that can be proven.
