    1. [SAWYER] re: Peter Sawyer

    3. I am trying to locate information on my gg grandparents, Peter Sawyer and Catharine Huff. She was born in OH in 1843; he was born in 1832 came over from Germany prior to 1855 (He became a citizen in Nov. 1855). I need help with my Huff/Seip line. They were married 21 April 1861 in Upper Sandusky, OH. Peter and Catharine's children are: infant, b.& d.1862; Mary Emma b. 1863, d. 1865; William Peter, b. 1865, d. 1931; Johney, b. 1867, d. 1874; Harrison Marshall (my g grandfather) b. 1869, d. 1949; Anna Belle, b. 1871, d. 1947; Orrin Pendleton, b. 1873, d. 1959. All I know about my gg grandparents is that Catharine's parents (William Huff and Emma Seip) were born in Germany. Obviously they came to the States because Catharine was born in Delaware , Delaware Co., OH in 1843. This came from her death certificate, so there's no way of knowing if the informant actually knew the facts. I have found several cases where the person giving the information THOUGHT they were giving true facts, but I found contrary evidence in other documents. Regardless, I have not been able to find them on any records. Right now, they are my brick wall. Peter's parents also were born in Germany: John Sawyer and Mary Rossman. Peter was born July 1832, d. Feb 1913. I know nothing of his mother's family, and the Sawyer line stops at John. They came to the States sometime after 1832 and before 1855 (Peter became a citizen in 1855). To give more information with which to make a connection, I submit the following: There's a possibility the above mentioned William Huff was born in 1803, and Emma (?) in 1814. There is a listing in the SAWYER family Bible of a William Huff, d. May 18, 1877 at age 74 years, 5 months, 3 days and a Mary Huff, d. Oct 1, 1884 at age 70 years, 7 months, 14 days. Maybe these are Catherine's Huff grandparents? Or maybe these are Catharine's parents. The note above the names is: "Gpa and Gma Huff." The ages could fit for her parents. And since this was the Sawyer family Bible, their son, it's probable they were his grandparents, Catharine's parents. But the name doesn't make sense unless Emma was Mary Emma or Emma Mary. There is another listing of a Mary Emma, Catharine's daughter, so Mary could conceivably be Mary Emma. Other names associated with this SAWYER family are SARGEANT, HADSELL, BAILEY, JOHN, NIETZ, COWAN, DYESS, WOOD, EARLY, LEIST, BUECKER, POLING. Most of these families are in OH - Van Wert, Upper Sandusky, Delaware, Beaverdam, New Concord, Claysville. Some moved to PA and MI. If anyone has any information on these people, please HELP! Thanks, Linda
