I will believe the very first in abt. 1680-1710 would be found in Pasquotank and Chowan areas and Albermarle. I have not worked on this line in a while and you will have to check the counties and how they changed. In transcribing these, there may have been some errors made. It seems that 4 or 5 of these early Sawyer folks had land adjoining or touching each others land during the early 1700s. Signed by Robert Willis and Joseph Comander Inventory taken May 19, 1694. A bill of landing dated April 1684 on sloop Industry Attested 24 May before John Hunt and Henry White. Mary Relfe - former wife of John Jennings see John Jennings Oct. 1684 "A devision having beene made of the Cattle between Mary Relph and the children she had by Thomas Kelle By John Jennings, Robert Wallice, and Samuel Davis....ordered that the same be recorded. Higher Ct. Records County Ct. Oct. 1684 1694 Will of Thomas Price Mentions Godson Michael McDaniel, Jean McDaniel and John Sawyer was given a gun by the will. See Below 1698 re: Daniel Phillips. The court later ordered that Thomas Relfe and Thomas Barkock lay out the Danl. Phillips and Joan his wife (x wife of Michael McDaniel) the third part of the lands and Tenements Michael MacDaniell Late Husband of the said Joan was Seized of. It is interesting to note that 1698 Gen.Ct. that Wiliam Sawyer ordered to James MacDaneill pay unto the petitioner William Sawyer thirteen shillings and four pence for his travill and attendance being summoned to give evidence. Alb 251:127 1696 Found a will for William Frizzell..whose daughter married a Thomas Sawyer....some of the names as above in transports are the same in the will.... W. side of Pasquotank River land adjoining John and Robert Sawyer 1698 General Ct. Records Daniel Phillips vs. James McDaniel over land which came to him from Jean McDaniel in the will of Thomas Price 1694. Daniel Phillips married Jean McDaniel after the death of Michael McDaniel through the death of wife Jean. Thomas Price never made lawful entry for the land. William Sawyer was called to testify. Of interest is that Garrett Keen (?Koen) signed the Will of Thomas Price. 1699 James McDaniel = 1699 referenced as being about 25 years of age and swore he bought A horse in April from Cornelius Lerry. Must be son of above James? Could this be the James McDaniel who had dealings with Thos. Sawyer? 1704/05 General Court CCR 192 Order for John Sawyer to be arrested regarding complain of Wm Glover of Colonel Robert Quary and Pensylvania Company vs. John Sawyer John Sawyer - Sued by Wm.
